Rudy as the Punisher?

Comedy Central’s Indecision 2008 has a funny bit where they compare 2008 Presidential hopefuls to comic book characters, and some of the match-ups are pretty darn amusing.
Like Joe Biden…
Joe Biden = Beast: Can’t keep his mouth shut, ineffectual leader — has kinda weird hair.
and Mike Gravel
Mike Gravel = Wolverine: Intense, outdoorsy misanthrope from the Great White North with little memory of his past — possibly insane.

Al Gore as Galactus is perfect, but Hillary as She-Hulk? I see Ms. Clinton as much more of a Mystique. She’ll wear whatever face she needs until she’s close enough to use the blade, and then we’re all screwed.
And Gulliani as the Punisher? More like a grotesque synthesis of the Punisher and the Toad.
So long as the next president isn’t a Republican or a Democrat, I think we might be OK.
Otherwise…..

I imagine Hillary more as Typhoid Mary.
Who or what would Nader be? Harvey Pekar?

Nader – good intentioned, competent in his field, not at all appropriate for the business at hand, popular to a cultish few – Ted Kord.

Joshschr, bravo! That’s perfect.

Ted’s “not at all appropriate for the business at hand” only if one insists that superheroing is Serious Business. I prefer the “gay madcap escapade” view he takes of the profession, honestly.
Nader- idealistic almost to a fault, not really willing to play the game, not willing to compromise or think pragmatically about the effects of sticking to a certain principle- I want to say The Question, but maybe not with the Randian roots, so Rorshach?

Follow-up- is Nader even a candidate this time around? Haven’t heard anything. (I can’t bring myself to blame him for Bush as other liberals do; it’s not like he could have predicted a terrorist attack giving Dubya the illusion of leadership ability.)

Thanks Mark!
Evan – I like the suggestion of the Question but he has too much mystique to be Nader, and is just a bit too crazy. Ross Perot maybe?
When I suggested the Blue Beetle, I was thinking of Countdown to Infinite Crisis BB, right when he’s got almost all of it figured out, then gets popped in the head by Maxwell Lord. He could almost get the job done if it weren’t for those pesky bad guys.
And like BB, his influence will be felt during current events whether he has a direct hand in them or not….

Perot as the Question or the Creeper could work.

Is the Castiglione thing a retcon? Sounds stupid.

The Punisher never misses a meeting and does not need to embelish his record to look tough. So Rudy is FAIL as Frank…

The Punisher didn’t even have a real name until the first issue of his first mini series and I believe the Castiglione name was there from the start.

For a second, I thought Sean Astin had replaced Thomas Jane for the next movie.
Damn you, Cronin, for dashing my hopes.

Me too! I like that a reference to Slott’s She-Hulk made it in there, even if I think the Hilary is Shulkie thing falls apart when you remember that people actually like Jen. Does She Hulk have any other nicknames I forgot? Gore as Galactus is spot on, so much so that the big G’s reveal will be even more disappointing when I get ’round to watching FF 2.

Didn’t the Castligione name first get used in his black & white magazine, Marvel Preview or whatever, in the 70′s?

And Brad, I just finally saw FF 2 tonight, and I’m pretty sure you’ll find all sorts of ways to be disappointed.

Gosh, I had no idea that a people that elected GWB twice disliked Hillary Clinton so much.
Honest question: why?

Nobody’s responding to you Luis, so I’ll say something.
I don’t live in America, so I’m certainly not someone who elected GW (although I sure rooted against him the second time, prayerfully hoping that most Americans would at least want to vote against Abu Graib and Guatanomo Bay).
But I don’t expect anything ultimately different from the Dems, particularly not Clinton. She voted for this war, and sounds almost as murderous against Iran as Cheney does.
I was fourteen when Nixon was impeached and was so thrilled. I desperately hated that man, the way my music culture and All in the Family (as well as his own actions) had conditioned me to. I was so happy to see Carter come in, and liked him much better. I was twenty when Reagan came in, and disliked him immediately, his lizard-like VP as well. For twelve years I railed against all the horrible things the Republicans were doing. When Bill Clinton got elected I breathed a sigh of relief, and when GW came in I said oh shit.
Every day now I realize a little more about what a dupe I was. I’ve read so much about all the dirty deals done through the Carter and Clinton administrations. To me now the Democrats and Republicans at least through my lifetime have been nothing more than good cops and bad cops, taking their turns, taking their turns, but always “drifting” in the same direction.
Now what you’ve got is two war parties, both saying that the only other country that really matters in the whole world is the state of Israel, that WHATEVER it does is right, both continually promising/threatening to expand this war. Even your own generals are rebelling, four weeks ago re-routing and “losing” a B-52 armed with tactical nukes that was ordered to the Middle East to prepare for deployment.
Don’t listen to CNN! Fuck FOX! Listen beyond your own borders to the voices outside, look for the voices in your own country that are being suppressed, and for God’s sake recognize that somebody who claims to be a born-again Christian and then says bombing a city “feels good” is a fucking liar (George W).
Well, now half the regulars on this site will probably hate me. Please don’t shoot the messenger.

I think I count as a regular on the site, and I thought that was perfect.
