I voted for Angel and am glad to see others did too. I’ve always just found him very iconic as one of the original Marvel heroes, and a character whose only ability is flight. It didn’t take long before tons of characters could fly (many w/o even a reason *cough* DC comics *cough*)

Although he didn’t make my Marvel Top Ten, I’ve always kind of liked Angel. Granted, he works best in the original X-Men line-up since, in that company, he’s the only character who can fly. But I always dug the fact that he was out there fighting crime before Professor X came knocking on his door.

I still can’t look at that cover without seeing the doctored up Christmas ad that Marvel did with it. Goblin wearing the Santa hat, and dragging Spider man with garland.

wow. only 4 points seperate the 55th and 50th position.

hmmm. that’s odd. I looked at the top 50 list again so i could comment on something and noticed that at rank 31 we have a tie between colossus and galactus, but they don’t have the same points at all. Colossus clearly wins. wonder why i didn’t notice that before?

anyway, i was going to say, if you look at the top 55 places, there seems a clear division seems to be right around 31. people below that have fewer than 200 points and the pretty small (less than 3 points per position). the top 30 have much higher divisions between each position (though some like 9-10-11 are still close). It looks like the top spots garner a LOT of votes, but when you get down to the “second tier” characters, the love is pretty evenly distributed. scarlet witch lost out to Jessica Jones at #45 by a single first place vote.

One thing that strikes me immediately about that Spider-Man cover is Peter Parker’s HANDS.

They are the only thing that DON’T look like they were drawn by Romita.

They look almost DITKO-like.

If he were trying to emulate Ditko, it would be more apparent in the rest of the cover.

But since he obviously wasn’t doing that it looks a little odd.

Weird.

That is among my favourite comic covers.

Spider-Man No More remains my favourite cover ever. So I’m inclined to agree about the strength of Romita covers

That’s John Romita’s first issue and cover for Spider-Man. Romita is the greatest cover artist ever, in my opinion. Spider-Man became Marvel’s best seller after he came on, and I think those covers were a huge reason why.

Green Goblin beating Venom has restored my lost faith in humanity.

All great characters here who should have made the list.

I’d have kicked off Winter Soldier, the two Ultimate characters and… not sure who else.

Probably there’s about 75 characters I claim “deserved” to be in the top 50.

Wow, if I put Moon Knight two spots higher he would have been in the top 50. By the way.. Angel? Even 51 seems like a high place for a character that has had no use aside from destruction over the past 10 years. But no, he beats out Professor X.

Interesting how most of the Marvel people everyone missed are all bunched together just below the line, isn’t it?

Except Ghost Rider. Dude’s gonna haunt my dreams, I just know it…
