Huh. Okay. I've only read a few Legion comics, and in most of them he just seems like a stereotypical "smart leader" guy. But like I said, I've never really found the appeal in the Legion. So it might just be me.

Brainiac 5 was that high? Really?

Why should that be surprising? He's easily the most compelling and fascinating character in the Legion: Reed Richards' intellect without the cuddly-wuddly family aspect, the ultimate expression in comics of scientist-as-hero. He's the biggest gun on the team, the most powerful, the potentially-scariest, and he doesn't have any superpowers. He's Batman with different motivations, Dr. Doom if Doom were a good guy.

People talk about Mon-El and the founding three all the time when they talk about the Legion, but for my money, the one absolutely necessary character for the Legion is Brainy. The Legion has shown through its publishing history that it can do quite well without any character on the team and still be entertaining except for Brainy. He's the glue of the concept.

Brainiac 5 is an exceptional character. It's a bit sad that he ranked this low but its good to see that at least 111 people rate the guy.

Well, of the 5 of my DC picks that didn't make the top 10--I siad I wa smost surprised by Sandman (Wes Dodds) not making it--well here he is at #57. I didn't pick him because of SMT, but due to Roy Thomas. OF course I did buy SMT--it was the last comic I bought on a regular basis.

Wildcat got consideration for my list as well.
