Captain America is legend, and who is Captain America but Steve Rogers,
and the only one that should wear the original custom. The new hero should
have a custom kind of like the original (like Ross portrayed) so not to take
away from Rogers legacy. Again the new hero would not have the powers
or abilities that Rogers had so Ross give him a gun and knife kind of like an
equalizer. Marvel and DC both guilty of changing customs and abilities (weapons)
when their heroes are replaced due to injury or death only to have the original
custom return when the original hero returns. This new Captain America though
different should fill the void till the original one returns. You never know Marvel
might pit the old against the new or even team them up when they figure out how
to bring back Rogers from the dead.

I wonder how much of the situation is connected to the fact that Marvel has to share the Cap rights with the Simon family?

I mean, they've stripped out the costume and Steve Rogers, I wonder how much of that is from a legal persepctive?

Makes no difference. Marvel had the strongest shared universe up until the early 1990s, and now have pissed that away with such POS stories as 'Civil War'.

I am not totally down on Marvel. I loved the first six issues of the Huston 'Moon Knight', and Annihilation was a great space story.

Pity the focus was more on Civil War than Annihilation.

Until they bring back the real cap...

I was interested to see that Ross was partially inspired by the Cap movie serial. I immediately thought of it when I saw the gun. Unfortunately, he referred to it as "awful", which it most certainly is not. It is a horrible misrepresentation of the character (it gets all the details wrong), but it's a damn fine action serial, regardless.

So, if they do go down that path, itâ€™s not exactly original, but itâ€™s not a bastardisation of the character, since the whole point is to show how great the real character is.

Yeah, but this is the internet, so who cares what the 'point' of the story is?
We want the character we weren't buying back the way he was, and we want it now!

Its the same thing to me as putting the Punisher in that roleâ€¦no matter how good the story is, itâ€™s a bastardization of the character." Assuming Bucky is the new Cap, I'm sure Bru realises that he isn't really Cap, too. It'll probably be exactly like Knightfall and Reign of the Supermen, where the whole point of the story was to highlight the strengths of the original character by exposing the flaws of his 'hip and now' replacement. So, if they do go down that path, it's not exactly original, but it's not a bastardisation of the character, since the whole point is to show how great the real character is.

Ehhh...knowing Marvel, it's probably the Poncho of Cosmic Destiny or something.

Needs more pouches. Maybe a strap of them around his thigh. And the gun isnâ€™t nearly big enough.

Some grenades at the waist, you think? Or is that passe now? Wait...how about a few automatic rounds looped down one leg?

At first, I thought Cap had lost his pants at the cleaners. On second look, I think it looks like he's wearing black coveralls over his uniform. Maybe he had to fix a leaking toilet, or was working on his car's engine...

The gun? No problem. Captain America has always been a soldier, hasn't he?

Man some of you guys can be downright harsh, if they were puttin this on Steve Rogers I would totally agree but someone new taking up the, I know Ross likes to make his costumes shiny but it's a bit too much and unbalanced (what about the rest?) Anyway, after reading some of your comments and looking at the art for some time, I'll have to agree that the black is overwhelming, I don't mind it in the sleeves but there's too much black throughout the rest of the costume, especially the boots, the boots and gloves must match. Black causes to many problems with the balance of this costume they should have used black sparingly or no black at all. And give him a belt will ya. But in the end, it's almost impossible to top the classic costume, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

The gun isn't a revolutionary addition -- it's probably a retro nod to the 1944 Captain American serial where Cap carried a pistol but no shield.

In effect, in that serial, Cap was like Spy Smasher with a different costume.
