I've noticed that a lot of comics recently have had a pointless, "visit Dr. Strange" issue. The character haa a problem and, to avoid fans saying, "Why didn't Dr. Strange just chant a few words and fix it?" they have to throw in a filler issue where they get rejected by Dr. Strange. It's kind of (really) annoying.

I did, however, enjoy the throwback to ASM 42. Went back in my archives, of course, and looked up the scene. In conclusion, I like JRJR better than Joe Q.

I thought that Dominick was talking to a military/govt camera in the wreckage at the end of Black Summer. Or that they were aware of otherwise being surveilled and were sending a message.

I'm going to miss PhD, although Gage's interest level seemed to wane when Mahnke left (which is probably @ the same time the ax came down).

The ONLY good thing about GA/BC was Cliff Chiang's gorgeous art. Too bad I can't buy it. Can we get the man another worthwhile project ASAP?

Wow, Apodaca, you really do think DC fans are stupid, don't you? I'm not saying you're wrong, but still...

Personally, I thought GA/BC was a lot of fun, and will definitely stay on my pull list. But then, I've liked all the Winnick stuff I've read. So maybe there's something wrong with me.

No love for Storm Shadow?

If you can I recommend picking up the back issues. It's not exactly flying off the shelves so you shouldn't have any problems. Issue four came out this week and ended the first story arch of the title.

X factor I buy every month and I think I am ready to end it.

"Black Canary killed “Green Arrow” at their wedding. People wondered why they would do this? The next issue revealed that it wasn’t actually him. I bragged about having called it right away."

Um, that's not exactly anything that'll earn you bragging rights. Nobody with a brain thought they'd REALLY killed Green Arrow. (Not even for a year-ish, a la Superman or Captain America.) I mean, he just came back to life a few years ago, and DC's not about to launch a new title called "Green Arrow-Black Canary" by killing one-half of the title duo. So it was pretty obvious to those of us who think that it was a feint.

To that end, I give DC a bit of credit for not stringing along the less-than-savvy readers for more than a month (by revealing this week that it was an impostor who got the arrow in the neck). Some plot revelations are worth building up for many months; some, decidely, are not.

"The “Velociraptors” in Jurassic Park more closely resembled Deinonychuses."

Victor made a similar comment about the "velociraptor" Old Lace in Runaways i.e. that Old Lace was more the size of a Deinonychus.

Something that is kind of interesting about the fact that artists continued to draw non-feathered versions of dinosaurs that were probably feathered, is that feathered dinosaurs would appear to be in general more artistically interesting. Check out this picture of a feathered deinonychus for instance:

http://www.dinosaur-world.com/feathered_dinosaurs/deinonychus_antirrhopus.htm

Because we don't know the color or overall appearance of the feathers on a dinosaur, an artist, if he or she wanted to, could have relativley free range with their own interpretation.

Greg, judging by other reviews you've written, I'll warn you to get ready to despise the main character of Shortcomings. He's a total douche. It's a good story, but you're going to want to punch him in the face, or whatever it is that you want to do to fictional characters that are total assholes.

I was a huge dinosaur nerd as a kid, so forgive me if I sound like a know-it-all. Anyway:

In a dinosaur encyclopedia published in 1986, which was written for people older than my 10 year-old self, I learned that Velociraptors (and, in fact, all Dromaeosaurs)may have had feathers, that Velociraptors were on the smallish side, and that their snouts were slightly elongated. The "Velociraptors" in Jurassic Park more closely resembled Deinonychuses.

Of course, the general non-nerdy public would probably call any Dromaeosaur a Velociraptor, so what others wrote about it being Flag's perspective makes sense.

For a good dinosaur comic, seek out Paleo by Jim Lawson. It was published by TMNT's Peter Laird in the '90s, and was a fun read with great art. Tyrant by Steve Bissette remain one of comics' great unfinished works. Age of Reptiles, by Ricardo Delgado IIRC, was an excellent silent comic about war and revenge in the Mesozoic Era.

thank you, Apodaca. What a goofy idea. I guess the argument could be made that Ollie is still a bachelor, then? Gets DC off the hook when it is obvious comic book writers loathe married heroes.

Um…. I stopped reading DC a while back except for All-Star Superman and Metal Men. I have read a lot of comments about this, but nothing clear enough that I can figure out. What happened in the DC universe that sucks this time? I apologize for being ignorant.

Funny enough, those are the only DC titles I read, as well. And that's two more than my normal track record.

As far as I could tell from the internet, Black Canary killed "Green Arrow" at their wedding. People wondered why they would do this? The next issue revealed that it wasn't actually him. I bragged about having called it right away.

"Velos are very, VERY closely related to birds on a phylogenetic level."
Wasn't that, like, the whole point of Jurassic Park in the first place?

to be fair, isn’t the feathers on velociraptors a pretty recent discovery? I don’t think most people are even aware that its been confirmed.

Wow! I didn't know they found quill knobs on a velociraptor! Neat.

This constitutes absolute proof of feathered raptors, but there was pretty strong evidence even pre... The carbonized critter I mentioned earlier is part of it, and Velos are very, VERY closely related to birds on a phylogenetic level. So, yeah, we've had feathers on raptors for a couple years now.

to be fair, isn't the feathers on velociraptors a pretty recent discovery? I don't think most people are even aware that its been confirmed.

Oh, and the Green Arrow thing is JUST as stupid as it sounds (although Chainsaw Batman was almost funny enough to warrant reading the comic for free in the store).

I think having "unrealistic" dinosaurs in Skartaris actually makes sense, even in "real" scientific terms, because it's a different ecosphere than Earth, so who's to say the dinosaurs aren't different?

That could even be a positive - i.e., chance encounters by explorers over the years, surviving soldiers from The War That Time Forgot, etc., might be responsible for all the dinosaur myths we're now learning aren't true... on above-the-surface Earth, that is.
