Thanks for reviewing Lazarus Greg!

I used this style because I wanted to try something different to what i do on Rex Mundi, and beasides, I have 2 months to do Rex and 1 month to do Lazarus, that is why, the art is less detailed, but I like it the same, is less realistic wich is a good change for me.
I hope yo like the rest of the series.

I'm also Glad that you are enjoying Rex Mundi too, I'm enjoying it a lot and each issue is getting better and better, hopefully, next issue has a lot of nice actions scenes.

keep up the good work!

I'd be up for a super-villain 'The Kola'... or more a want to be super-villain.
Just some drugged out guy in a kola suit who can't be bothered to actually rob anywhere - he'd be like Towley from South Park, only more useless.
He'd be popular in his day, but despised by readers/publishers a decade later for making comics about people in leotards funny.

You know I was just having some fun with you, sir. That's pretty interesting about koalas, and it makes me think DC or Marvel should have an "all-koala" month, where one must appear in every comic they publish. Kind of like Assistant Editors' Month, but more fun.

Of course, most of the Aussies I spoke with back in the day hated koalas because they claimed they were pests, eating up all the eucalyptus and pooping everywhere. Who knew koalas were so controversial?

<blockquote>Checkmate is really good. You probably don’t like it because it doesn’t have koalas in it.</blockquote>

Koalas evolved into a species of drug addicts - they sleep for all but a few hours a day, then eat some eucalyptus leaves, which contains a chemical that gets them high, and so they fall alseep for all but a few hours after which they eat more leaves that contain a chemical... and if you live in certain areas in Australia and have a pool, by law you have to have a certain type of rope in there so that a kola can pull itself out if it decides to go for a swim, which they do regularly after eating some leaves.
Which is my way of saying 1) everybook would be more awesome with koalas, and 2) why do we think we're the most evolved species on the planet when it's obviously the fun-loving koala?

As for my want of more reviews, it's not a slam on you Greg, it's just good to get different opinions on books - Joe and yourself were much more interesting to read when you covered the same books and had different opinions of them.
And as always, I want Brian to bring back the feature where he asked us what to buy.
"No really Brian, Tarot the Black Witch has turned a corner, it's REALLY different to what you're expecting, honest!"

I think that Death of the New Gods might have something to do with the way the whole Fourth World started--"There came a day when the Old Gods died." Maybe we're heading for the third generation of gods. Anyhow, I didn't buy it, despite liking Mystery in Space.

I've lost my enthusiam for Elephantmen, though I don't know why. It has been pretty good from the beginning, but I put it back on the shelf yesterday. There is some good bang for your buck, and I would encourage anyone to check it out to see if they like it, but I'll have to reassess if I want to stay with it.

Hey, Greg --

Thanks for sticking with the book. Now, I don't want to discourage anyone from picking up the individual issues but I feel the same way about the wait. Bi-monthly wasn't how I envisioned the book originally but that's how ASP plays and we're more than thrilled to play with them. That said, I'm happy to report that the series will be released in two beautiful ASP styled hardcover collections - one for each arc of the story. The first hardcover hits in June.

I caught the Negative Zone prison analogy too but then, Civil War never really used the Prison as anything but a Guantanamo Bay analogy and a kind of Mcguffin to give Spiderman a reason turn away from Stark. In Checkmate's case, I think the portal is just a tie-in to Salvation Run, a plot point in the larger story of Waller rather than the focus of the story.

Alsom Waller's motivations in Checkmate are pretty clear to me. She was orignally given Black Queen status (in 52) but having a bad rep from being Luthor's secretary, the UK, French, and Russians forced the U.S. to make her White Queen (non-operations). She sticks it out in Checkmate because she's scheming to get back on the black ops side, is using it to keep an eye on/undermine the metahuman capability of the other world powers (which she can do even better when she gets abck on black side), and she can use the intel she gets as White Queen to run her suicide squad better. If she quit and ran the Squad again as a purely U.S. govt. agency then she has to compete with Checkmate's agendad with being able to undermine it, control it, or even be protected by it.

In the latest Comics Buyers Guide, there are several references questioning whether Salvation Run is copying a top-selling Marvel event series... but the one in question is Secret Wars, not Civil War.

I know the "ripping off" goes in both directions, P&Z, but I'm just surprised that DC would do it so quickly after Marvel, especially in a big Marvel event that they're following with a big DC event.

" Obviously, the idea of sending the super-villains “someplace else” - in DC’s case, a different planet - is ripped off.... but aren’t they embarrassed to be ripping off the competition so blatantly? "

Probably not, and anyway DC might say that Marvel was ripping off the "silver age Phantom Zone as Krypton's prison" stuff.
Not that this changes something...

Bill Reed said:
"And my thoughts on “Death of New Gods”? ... They’ll be back, of course."
-----
Of course. Look how many time Darkseid has killed DeSaad. Captain America is dead. But Captain America is in a new costume. Confusing sentences. But both true in comics.

Roger Ebert says it's not what a movie is about, it's how it goes about doing it. At it's base, Brokeback Mountain is simply a love story. The guys at work went nuts over the fact that is was a "gay cowboy movie", because, you know, cowboys are All-American and therefore can't be gay. But aside from the fact that some cowboys WERE gay, the characters in Brokeback Mountain were shepherds, not cowboys.

This series is about the Death of the New Gods. Whether it will be a good series depends on how Jim Starlin develops the story. Darkseid is killing the New Gods in an attempt to find the Anti-Life Equation. He is looking in the wrong place. The Anti-Life Equation has been embedded in Jimmy Olsen. That is why Jimmy Olsen Must Die.

For the record, Greg, I love your reviews and faithfully read them every week. I thought about trying my hand at a review column-- but I can't do it with the frequency or quality that you do, so why bother?

The death in comics debacle? Yeah-- it's getting tired and/or depressing. They need better ideas.

And my thoughts on "Death of New Gods"? Well, there's no way in hell I'm going to buy the damn thing, because I know for a fact it's just going to poop all over the wonderful things Kirby had set up that precious few creators after him were able to carry along. Oh well. They'll be back, of course.
