Convincing Marvel
- by Brian Cronin

My pal Chris had a great idea.
Someone should send Bill Rosemann a Spider-Man cake, pleading with him to convince Marvel to have Amazing Spider-Man come out four times a month, not three!!

I'd rather send him a cake to convince Marvel to have it come out once a month.

I'm sure it'll be shipping four times a month. At least until they've caught up to where they would've been without One More Day delays.

I like how the building is crumbling under him, as if Spidey were only a moment from being crushed under sweet, delicious rubble.

Why is that a great idea? Sending someone a cake to convince them of something is pretty good, but why...that?

I always worry that explaining a joke sorta ruins it, but I understand that this one is kinda obscure.
In any event, recently, some Quasar fans got some attention for sending Bill Rosemann a cake asking for the return of Wendell Vaughn.
So Chris made me laugh by suggesting that we send a cake not asking for an obscure character to be brought back, but asking for a popular character to get even MORE attention.

How many cakes will it take to get them to re-purchase the rights to ROM?

My name in lights! When do we start baking the cake?

If they sell the cakes to get the money they'd need to buy back the ROM rights... half a cake? A slice?

I think Steve Rogers -- despite being dead since March -- has managed to make more appearances in his own title this year than Spidey has in his own ASM title.

Only four? Why not SEVEN times?

How about sending Marvel a cake to persuade them to make Amazing Spider-man good again?

That's what they think they're doing. Unfortunately, they seem to have "kewl" confused with "good".

To be fair, they really couldn't pander to the fans more with the talent roster they've put together for Brand New Day. I don't know that anyone's ever accused Dan Slott or Bob Gale of being 'kewl', but more power to them if they have.
It's just a shame that it looks like they'll be saddled with stuff like a magically dissolved marriage.

Oh, Dan Slott is definitely "kewl". He just comes from the comedy side of it. It's the same crowd that thinks Deadpool is comedy gold, and Fabian Nicieza is one of the greatest writers of our time.
And, in my opinion/experience, the stuff that is made to pander to the fans is always the epitomy of "kewl". If we want "good", the stories have to serve the stories, not the fanboys.
