Master of Kung Fu, Shang Chi's Title, was brilliant - as fourthworlder wrote, great cast. He'd have made my list if we'd gone to 15.

Unfortunately, the conflict in Master of Kung Fu revolves around the fact that Shang Chi is the son of Fu Manchu. Since Fu Manchi is a licensed character, as is major supporting player Denis Nayland Smith, Marvel apparently cannot issue an Essential MoKF.

It's a shame. Those comics really are essential.

I don't think anyone would fault you for that. It was far from his best work.

I’ve never read X-Statix, but do know that the line between stupid and silly / wacky can be very thin and pretty much purely subjective.

Unless, of course, you use the actual definition of the word stupid, which is what I'm doing. And that book was certainly not unintelligent, in plot, character, or style. Of course, it was satirical and parodic. That's where the silliness comes into play. Maybe the fact that it didn't take itself totally seriously is what turns people off. That's fine. But that doesn't speak to the intelligence level of the book.

I love most Milligan stuff (except his X-Men) and I'd say X-Statix is up there with his best stuff. He and Allred really gelled together.

I'm glad Doop made the cut.

And Black Bolt would be in my top 25 characters, so I'm rather glad to see him.

If there's anything that Milligan's run on X-Statix WASN'T, it's stupid. Wacky, self-referential, silly... all these could apply. But not stupid.

Seriously, stop typing. You're so completely wrong, the keys on your keyboard dread every single time that you press them.

Fourthworlder asked: "What's a Doop?"

Theno answers: "Don't ask. It's too late for me, save yourself. The stupidity, it burns!!"

And, this is coming from someone who loved Milliar's runs on Animal Man, Shade, Extremist, and even Enigma.

Shang Chi is in the one issue of Marvel Knights(4) I own. Teaming up with Daredevil, um well at least having coffee with Daredevil, Dagger,
and Black Widow?. I assume he does something cool in the issue before or possibly in the issue after.

I also tried to think of some asian heros to add to your list and only came up with Silver Samurai to add.

what’s a Doop?

A camera operator, an advisor, a friend, a lover, a limitless pocket of space, and above all, an awesome character from Peter Milligan and Mike Allred's X-Force/X-Statix comic of the early 2000's.

I had Shang-Chi around #4 or so. That was a wonderful comic with one of the best supporting casts ever.

I didn't have Black Bolt even in my top twenty, but will always remember his introduction scene (and the sequence of events leading up to it) as one of the greatest character intros ever. I first read it in a Marvel's Greatest Comics double issue that reprinted FF 44 and 45 that ended with his entrance, smashing through a wall after the other Inhumans had appeared one by one, a dramatic cliff-hanger. When I was fifteen and Vancouver first got a comic book store, FF 46 was the first "old" issue of any title that I desperately had to have.

But my real reason for posting this is to ask, what's with that image of Elektra?? Is she wearing a cup, or this some sort of a residual Skrull thing or what? I know I'm way out of touch, but seriously, what's happening down there?

and what's a Doop?

Shang-Chi? I'm sure he has the potential to be as good as any other character, I mean look at Iron Fist whose Mr. Cool now thanks to Brubaker. But I can't ever remember seeing him in ANY Marvel comic, guest appearance or otherwise (besides the one his in now).
Actually I can't even remember the last time I actually saw an Asian male character (as a hero) in a comic, or at least one who was significant in some way...That transforming (alien) guy from New X-men and Sunfire is the last I remember.
Of course I don't read that much comics...

I just read about Doop, X-Static, U-Go Girl, etc.

I now hate the 60 of you who voted for Doop, causing me to become curious and going to read all of that. Don’t you realize that things learned cannot be un-learned?

So it looks like only 4 out of my Top 10 placed in the Top 100 so far, with only 5 to go.

Thanos and Galactus did pretty well, of course. Howard the Duck squeaked into the Top 50, and Squirrel Girl came pretty close. But it's not looking so good for Shang-Chi, the Ameridroid, Hannibal King, Fin Fang Foom and It, the Living Colossus. And no Uatu the Watcher? Seriously?

Cool to see Black Bolt and Doop show up. I like both a lot, though I'll cop to forgetting all about Doop when making my list.

Rachel Summers is okay, though I haven't read X-Men since she still sported the rat tail and skintight red leather outfit...

Sentry? Meh...not a fan of Jenkins' pet character.

And Elektra ranking 95th? That surprised me at first, but when I thought about, since Miller revived her Marvel has done jack with her that has been interesting, so I can see people not really caring. The whole Skrull twist was probably the best thing to happen to the character in nearly 20 years...

Ha! I'm definitely going to lord Doop tying Rachel over some people.

I never understood the fascination some people had with that character.
