Todd Allen has a great look at Zuda here. Primarily, Allen is examining exactly what the point of Zuda is, if the beginning ten entrants are filled with print comic credits, including some creators with extensive print credits (Pop freakin’ Mhan?!? He must have drawn more than two dozen comics for DC and Marvel!).

Mmmm. I must say I’m surprised by the lack of relative newcomers too. But still, pros still need work too right? I guess as Zuda continues we’ll see more and more newbies. Hopefully.

But they need some reasonably established talent in order to draw people to the site. Or at least, it’s sensible to have them there. What’s questionable, I think, is the decision to include them as part of the “competition.”

Isn’t this S.O.P. for the Big Two? Doesn’t sound radically different than the confusing mix of “open to new talent” and “insiders solicited to submit” that characterized Bill Jemas’s Epic 2.0.

Oh, totally agreed. If they just, say, gave a couple of people 1-year deals right off the bat, like Pop Mhan, I’d say that would make sense.
Give the people some established talent to look for while they check out the new folks – but mixing the two together? That seems strange.
