Welcome to the latest installment of your breath of snark free air!

COMIC BOOK IDOL 3 UPDATE
Here are the entries from the six finalists for the third round of Comic Book Idol 3!
Check out the Comic Book Idol 3 forum if you want to see the rest of their pages!
I am going to post all their first pages (of their three page assignment). For reference, here is the script by Robert Kirkman (only a Marvel-style plot script, not a full script) for that first page…
Page 1:
Invincible is flying toward us, cool, iconic shot, he’s bursting through clouds, smiling, having a grand old time.
His fun is interrupted as he looks down at the ground, casually at first, then sees something distressing and starts to fly down toward us.
Caio Oliveira
a 28-year-old who is currently unemployed, from Teresina, PiauÃ, Brazil.

Charles Paul Wilson III
a 31-year-old security guard from Wharton, NJ.

Dan McDaid
a 30-year-old writer and illustrator from London.

Jon Reed
a 28-year-old accountant assistant from Alexandria, VA.

Jose “Joh James” Holder
a 36-year-old storyboard artist from Montreal.

Nicholas Pitarra
a 25-year-old college student and part-time waiter from Houston.

Get ready to vote this Wednesday!
COVER THEME GAME
As always, here is the game. I show three covers. They all have something in common, whether it be a character, a trait all three characters share, locale, creator, SOMEthing. And it isn’t something obvious like “They all have prices!” “They all have logos!” “They all feature a man!” etc.
In addition, please note that you must have some familiarity with comic book history to correctly guess these comics. You cannot guess the connective theme just by looking at the covers solely, you must have some knowledge beyond just the covers.
Good luck! A cool point to the first person to figure it out!

SNARK FREE CHALLENGE
Let’s say Simon Garth, Morbius, Jack Russell and The Living Mummy all formed a superhero team. What would be the best name for their team?
THE COVER GAME
This week’s game is as follows…
Find me a cover featuring Lien Harper, daughter of Roy Harper (Speedy/Arsenal/Red Arrow)…
Floating heads don’t count!
Here is an example (which you can’t use!)….

Remember, only one cover per commenter!
Good luck!
WHO IS IT?
Remember, tell me who it is and what number clue gave it away!

Cover theme game.
Each charachter uses an object to fight, Guy Gardner has a power ring, Spider-man uses web-hooters, and Cable has the Psimitar.

That’s not Cable. It does look like him, though, now that it’s mentioned.

Who is it?
Is it Hawkeye’s mentor/enemy Trickshot?

I had to remember a comic I got from one of those packs that JC Penney used to sell in their Christmas catalog to get that.

About CBI, my two favorites, round after round, continue to be McDaid and Oliveira. Hope both can really break into comics soon.

Cover game:
ALL covers are drawn by BRITISH artists.
Dave Gibbons, Mark Buckingham and Kev Walker respectively.
And THAT’s a FACT.

Sorry about that little bit o’snark at the end there.
I was watching some KIDS in the HALL and the “That’s a FACT” girl was just on.

The monster team name would be:
“Wielders of the ASS-END of the stick”.
No?
Well… SUPERNATURALS was a bad Marvel miniseries around 1998 or so. So they have THAT name lying around.
But if you’re looking for a NEW name…
How about “Crypt-Kickers”?
“Cryptics”?
“Crypts & Bloods”?
No?
OK. I’ll go now.

El Dustino beat me to it. I couldn’t remember his name, but rickshot is my vote as well. I had it in 2.
Crypts & Bloods is great!
How ’bout the Dead Heads?
The Horror Anti-Heroes Association? HA-HA for short!

Hrm, a team name for them?
“The Monster Mash”
Yes. Gold. Solid gold.
As for the Who is it?, I didn’t get it, but the guess of Trickshot is a great one, as he trained Hawkeye and Swordsman. Gosh, that was a lot of purple costumes.

I guessed Trickshot after 2, wasn’t positive until #5 though. Funny thing is, after the first question my intial thought was Hawkeye. Don’t know whether he dropped out of high school or not, but it seems possible.

Given that “Monster Squad” and “The Creature Commandos” are already taken…I’m gonna go with the current trend in comic and call them:
“The Gothic Avengers”
Put a big red “THE INITIATIVE” banner across the top and you can see it on the cover of a Marvel Comic already.
Colossus 2000

I’m not sure who Simon Garth is, but straight away I wanted to call the team the Garth Vaders….
I find it interesting that most of the Idol entries show him flying from left to right…. Which makes sense I guess. It would be the opening page, and if he went the other way, it would be drawing your eye to the inside of the cover, not to the edge, flipping over to the next page…. So good work guys.

I like reusing Supernaturals as the group name, but what about some other inactive Marvel titles like Legion of the Unliving or Lethal Legion?
Have a good day.

All three covers feature people who have spent time in a coma?
My guess for the Who Is It is General Glory, for no good reason…

It is, indeed, that all three cover artists are British! A cool point for Peter!

So, would Dead or Alive? be too obvious a name for that particular group of heroes?
And yes, it needs the question mark.
