R.I.P. Paul Norris 1914-2007
- by Brian Cronin
- in General
The co-creator (most likely with Mort Weisinger, although I am unsure) of Aquaman, Paul Norris, passed away yesterday, at the age of 93.

After creating Aquaman, and helping Mort Weisinger revamp Sandman as a superhero, Norris worked for the rest of his career on the comic strip, Brick Bradford, until he (and the strip) retired in 1987.

Oh no, so sad! I wrote a tribute to Norris just a few months ago.

I'm afraid he'll always go underappreciated. But I shall remember him forever and acknowledge his magnificent contribution to the industry.

That's sad. This is the first I've heard of him and he looks like such a nice guy.

Paul Norris was my uncle, married to one of my mother's sisters. I first met him as an adult back in the early '70s when he lived in Oceanside, CA. He was the most gracious man I think I've ever met. He was unasuming and humble and never bragged about his considerable accomplishments. As with most relatives who pass away, you wish you could have spent more time with them. So it was with "Uncle Paul" probably more so than others.
He had this aura about him that quietly told you that you were in the presence of a great man, someone you would be proud to emulate in your own life.
As the years passed, I traveled the world quite a bit with my career. I think the most surprising discovery was finding "Brick Bradford" in comics section of the English paper in Hong Kong. What a treat that was.
