In case you didn't go to the comic shop today, here's what you should buy, if you aren't already.

DOC FRANKENSTEIN - finally another issue!
MARVEL ZOMBIES - unexpectedly fun
PROOF !!! - Bigfoot as an agent of the FBI. How can you go wrong?

I would also say to get Foolkiller and GL Corps, but you didn't like the first issue of FK, and aren't reading SCW, so forget those.

Regarding "Scream," Peter David posted this on his blog:

"'The Scream,' a four issue limited series, has been in the hopper for three years now (and thus was one of the series that Marvel allowed me to grandfather into my exclusive deal; I just didn't announce that at the time because Dark Horse wanted to wait to announce it.)"

Apodaca said:
Things like using “Belgium!” as an exclamation are exactly what keep me away from Rex Libris. It’s the kind of joke you would have seen on Animaniacs or 90’s Conan, except he’s still using is in 2007. Tired, unorinigal, worst kind of nerd-humor. Not a joke, just ultra-safe silliness.

I don't know if you're aware of this, but in "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" series, "Belgium" is pretty much the filthiest word there is. Rex Libris' usage is not just "ultra-safe silliness", but rather referential humor to one of the biggest nerd hit series of all time.

"I mean, Astonishing X-men should have been wrapped up by now with # 24, but no, they HAD to go with a giant-sized finale which won’t be out until February."

To be fair, it had been announced quite some time ago that the Whedon/Cassaday Astonishing X-Men run would end with a Giant-Sized issue.

You may still object to them doing that, but at least it wasn't sprung on you as a surprise, a la DC.

Regarding Cassaday, when I talked to him at WW: Chicago he hadn't been working on the movie much. He said he was going to finish Astonishing and Planetary early next year and then go direct the movie after he had finished his projects so he could focus completely on the film. Also, only one volume of I am Legion has been published in English, but two more have been published in Europe by Humanoids. There's another reason his schedule is hectic, he's been drawing that too.

Another question to ask is whether Scream is WFH or creator owned. Exclusives usually allow creators to do as much as they like for other publishers as long as it's creator owned.

Alan, that was my point. I specifically recall the announcement of PAD's Marvel-exclusive deal mentioning he could still work on projects he had already started, such as Fallen Angel, and he couldn't start any new Marvel work. This was well over a year ago, so does that mean Scream was delayed since before the exclusive deal?

Greg,

Man oh man oh man! I can't win with you. Issue #3 where I spent a whole issue on back story you called the padding issue. This issue where I give you a big operatic ending doesn't have enough character - ARGH!!!! :P

Seriously, I do think that if you sit down with all the issues and read them - you'll find that it all works rather well.

I am feeling pretty good about the series when AICN says "Looking back on this series, I have to say it’s one of the best spy thrillers I have read in recent memory." (http://www.aintitcool.com/node/34786#11) And Comics And... wrote this "The best mini-series of the year ends with this issue. Hands down this was the best short story produced in the comic book world in 2007. Better then James Bond, makes Bourne almost boring, ups the ante by making the spy thriller genre a great read." (http://comicsand.blogspot.com/2007/11/left-on-mission-5-review.html)

C’est la vie....as always, I appreciate your time reading my work...and all the other BOOM! books...!!

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving.

I think Peter David's contract probably has a common clause in it that allows him to finish work that was already started. Maybe this is one of those cases.

Beside that, he is writing Fallen Angel for IDW.

RE: the typo, i'm pretty sure that this typo was probably a typo in the art, and not in the balloons, since it's in the art and not in the balloons. Therefor, the text has have had to be edited in photoshop rather than indesign*, wich is a bit more troublesome.

and I can understand that you're going to be reading over it if you're used to just checking balloons and i don't know maybe billboards for typoes? judging from your scan that piece of art is pretty fucking tiny.

*If they're actually smart people who like handy software that doesnt drive them insane.

"4. Dust is an orphan, and X-23 is a clone, but the rest come from (mostly) normal families."

Well, at least 4 or 5 of them were disowned by their parents for being mutants, and along with the orphans that should cover the majority of the team.

What's Peter David doing writing something new for Dark Horse? I thought he was Marvel-exclusive, and all his non-Marvel work was stuff he started prior to going exclusive.

I say "supposedly" because I can't find any reference to production on the film actually ever actually proceeding beyond the announcement of the producer's intent to make the film back in Summer 2006.

Re: Umbrella Academy

On the back of issue two, which has short character bios written as though they were excerpts from Vanya's tell-all book (something alot of celebrity families seem to hold long term grudges for to begin with), there's a bit about how Kraken was the only person she felt close to. As such, I would imagine he'd have felt more betrayed by her than the others may have (hence the line about thinking he had a sister). Not that any of the cast strike me as the most well adjusted of people to begin with.

As for Vanya's following decision, well I'm sure it was a toss up as to whether she should join the super-villain in destroying the world or join La Toya Jackson in the pages of Playboy.

He's supposedly directing a movie based on I am Legion, the comic he was working on with Fabien Nury for Humanoids.

Fittingly, only one volume of the actual comic exists and that was published back in 2004.
