Dark Horse Heroes Can Be Good

In the back of this week’s Dark Horse comics, they are running an interesting feature, where they spotlight various “Dark Horse Heroes” – characters, creators and fans that they feel deserve some recognition from the fans. I was particularly interested in the back of Umbrella Academy and Grendel, because they featured someone that I think some of our readers here will be quite familiar with.
It’s a fellow who sometimes gets into trouble for his views, but ultimately, he’s a good guy.
Yes, that’s right, I’m talking about…
Cade Skywalker!!!

You go, Cade!
Well chosen, Dark Horse!!
Oh, and also, pal, Alex Cox, also had the honor to appear alongside Cade.
Good company you keep, Alex!!
Seriously, congrats.

Since you guys love Byrne so much, you might be happy to hear that IDW is doing two volumes of JB’s NEXT MEN and possibly new series by JB himself.

Who the hell is Cade Skywalker? We’re not getting MORE prequels, are we?

At least it wasn’t Britney Spears. Seriously.

According to Wikipedia Cade Skywalker is a descendant of Luke, not an ancestor of his.

For the uninitiated who don’t buy any Dark Horse monthlies, what the heck is a Dark Horse hero?

Does Dark Horse even still publish original content other than Mignola’s stuff?
Oh and I thought it was going to be about Tag and Bink.

Dark Horse is doing a promotion where they spotlight creators, characters and/or fans that they deem to be “Dark Horse Heroes.”

They show up in Dark Horse’s answer to Bullpen Bulletins. The ones I’ve seen spotlight a creator and a fan/shop owner.
And Dark Horse publishes a lot of original stuff beyond the licenses and the Mignola-verse, including the Umbrella Academy and– the Umbrella Academy! Seriously, though, they’ve got a pretty good stable of creator owned work. I think Greg reviews most of their monthlies in that regard. I mean, come on, they’ve published Usagi Yojimbo for forever!

Not Usagi Yojimbo? Easily in my top 5 monthlies every dang month. I loves me my bunny samurai.
