It’s maybe not so bad on its own, but overall it’s kind of an indicator of the general bad planning comic book publishers are prone to – stuff like Dark Horse letting books go out of print when movies are out, or the general silliness of bragging about how their popular products are unavailable.

I can kind of understand Heroes, since it was (in this medium) a fairly unknown property… but how do you miscalculate sales of LOEG so badly that it completely sells out the day it’s released.

Though I can certainly understand how it takes a long time to get re-printed – that book must have been a nightmare to put together.

This might not work out too badly. Since the Heroes hardcover and (especially) the Black Dossier probably aren’t the sorts of things your average mom and pop or relative or friend would think to buy someone anyway (unless they were pretty cool), they might sell a lot of copies to folks who got money or vouchers for Christmas.

Still, if they release before Christmas, they can have all that PLUS the pre-Christmas sales, so they’re not gaining anything this way. Maybe there’s some logistical problems with getting them out early?

Weak? Really? Some of the biggest sales days usually happen post-Christmas. I know I put off buying some things until after the holidays.

If by “some of the biggest sales days,” you are comparing them to the other 330 or so days of the year, you might be right. I mean, I bet there are more sales on December 28th than, say, February 26th or March 12th or whatever.

But other than the day exactly after Christmas (a point of time in which neither of the two HCs will have arrived), which had historically done well as a shopping day, all the other biggest shopping days of the year are in the month BEFORE Christmas (primarily the Friday after Thanksgiving and the weekends leading up to Christmas).

To be fair, Ryan, these are RE-releases, but yeah, the same basic principle applies.

It boggles the mind.

It’s not like these things came out this week or anything – they came out three weeks ago (Heroes) and two weeks ago (Black Dossier), and the latter sold out THAT day.

So yeah, this is quite weak.

My first thought on reading this was “Oh, no… what’s wrong with the first printing of Black Dossier?” (I’m picking up my copy tomorrow), but then I realized that they were probably just going back to press because it was selling well. Duh!
