[...] Okay, ich war ja beinahe schon ein van-Lente-Fan, ohne Ã¼berhaupt etwas von ihm gelesen zu haben. Einfach deswegen, weil die Jungs bei Comics Should Be Good ihn stÃ¤ndig so in den Himmel loben. Van Lente hat dort sogar seinen eigenen Feiertag, der immer mit viel Aufhebens begangen wird. Die Reihe Action Philosophers hat seinen Ruhm begrÃ¼ndet und dieser dritte Sammelband ist wirklich sehr lesenswert (und lÃ¤ÃŸt mich noch intensiver danach streben auch die ersten beiden in meinen Besitz zu bringen). Ein wenig so wie in der wunderbaren Serie Goofy - eine komische Historie (die seit kurzem endlich als Gesamtausgabe verÃ¶ffentlicht wird) begleiten van Lente und Dunlavey berÃ¼hmte Philosophen auf den wichtigsten Stationen ihres Lebensweges und erklÃ¤ren nebenbei gleich die GrundzÃ¼ge ihrer philosophischen Theorien. Die biographischen Elemente sind nicht annÃ¤hernd so detailverliebt wie bei den erwÃ¤hnten Goofy-BÃ¤nden - manche Philosophen bekommen nur eine einzige Seite spendiert - aber die vorgestellte Philosophie wird trotzdem meist klar genug. Nun kann so etwas schnell sehr trocken werden. Dies ist hier aber nicht der Fall. Die Autoren feuern ein wahres Gag-Feuerwerk ab und die meisten zÃ¼nden auch. Besonders schÃ¶n fand ich die Zeichnungen von Dunlavey, die oft an die ganz groÃŸen der Comic-Welt angelehnt sind. So ist der Beitrag Ã¼ber John Stuart Mill zum Beispiel im Stil von Charles Schulz gezeichnet, es werden aber auch Anleihen an andere Klassiker wie Family Circus gemacht oder der typische Stil von Superheldencomics gekonnt emuliert. Of all the newish writers of the last couple of years, there is this weird class of Christos Gage, Fred Van Lente and Jeff Parker that I just sort of think of as "The Future."

Also, Action Philosophers is endlessly useful when you've got someone living in your household who doesn't know who Ann Rand is.
