This is definitely a manga that the American market needs. The Japanese market is so broad and extensive that this sort of book is not out of the ordinary; why not add some of that diversity to the US catalogue? Not every book has to be a stereotypical example of shonen or shojo teen-targeted formula. Publishers can strive to get some sort of audience outside of what is already there; it's okay to publish something that teens might <i>not</i> be interested in. And you're also wrong about the market making room for it; according to <a href="http://precur.wordpress.com/2007/12/28/the-year-that-was/" rel="nofollow">this post</a> at David Welsh's blog, it's actually selling quite well, and to an audience outside of regular manga readers.
