This was a fun little project. The interesting part was figuring out what to do with the playing card suits. Jonah said they wanted to incorporate something that would make them uniquely "Marvel", and eventually I stumbled upon the fact that the SHIELD and X-Men logos are primarily black while Captain America's shield and Spider-Man's mask are mostly red. Once I had those iconic images, the rest was just mechanics.

I'm glad people like them. I hear they were a hit at Marvel's offices, too.

I think they improved their power duplication skills (along with other stuff they've been doing, like evading Strange's magic and Logan's senses - provided they aren't skrulls) when they were holding the Illuminati hostage.

The Super-Skrull has been duplicating the FF's powers (due to artificial augmentation) for almost 45 years now, so I don't think they need to justify the idea by now.

Actually, most powers are either physical, or can be reproduced physically, which means that a shapechanger can duplicate it.

The skrull can't produce flame, or create force fields. But, it can become an insect and let people assume it became invisible. Two of them can duplicate a teleporter. They might not be able to reach the strength levels of the Thing or the Hulk, but unless fighting someone of that level, no one would really notice.

No plans to offer these for sale, but it's certainly a good idea.

So wait, how are the skrulls duplicating the powers of the heros? If they can duplicate the powers of Black Bolt or, potentially, the Hulk, how could Black Bolt or the Hulk be threats?

"I think Al Blaire (Dazzler) from New Excalibur should be a 2 of hearts. ;"

'Al Blaire' sounds like a heavyset man in a wifebeater t-shirt.

Maybe they can give them away with the comics to encourage buying the entire crossover.

Follow up, BC/Jonah -- any idea if Marvel will actually print/sell these when the set is completed? Or is it just online promo?

Actually, the idea didn't come from Marvel, but came from CBR's own Dave Richards. He sent me a proposal, which I loved and forwarded on to Marvel. The embraced it immediately. I then approached my good friend and the designer of the CBR logo, Jim MacQuarrie, to create some card mock-ups. He created the template and NAILED it the first time out. Marvel equally loved the designs and now all we do each week is create a new set. Really, CBR is doing all the heavy lifting on this one. I just like the idea of offering up "Secret Invasion" coverage in a more unique way than as the more obvious weekly updates or interviews.
