This is what puzzles me – how were the JLI supposed to take out 3 OMAC’S with half the team down?

“JEERS to Maxwell Lord being a big supervillain. Seriously, such a dumb idea. I hated it when Gerry Jones did it.”
Which issue did this happen in?

I think itâ€™d be hilarious if Giffen suddenly rose to power in DC, and he forced Johns, Winick, and Rucka to write Maxwell Lord as a good guy again. (Comparatively good, anyway)

Except in a pre-52 interview, when asked about it, Giffen said that Lord was always ‘evil’, and he was fine with them doing it.
(I don’t think he meant he’d always intended him to be villain evil, but that Lord was just an evil person, and him being a villain wasn’t out of the blue).

But agreed on Maxwell Lord (and glad I’m not the lone voice in the wilderness on this.) DC has actually gotten pretty good about addressing some of the less-fun moves they’ve made from IDENTITY CRISIS on without necessarily putting things back just as they were- Ralph and Sue are gone, but they’re together, Ted died, but everyone misses him and respects his memory, Batgirl’s not really evil, etc. But the “so, Max Lord was with Checkmate all along? What the?” memo seems to have gotten lost.

I love what Waid’s been doing on The Flash this time around. The kids are adorable (and, you know, I think the presence of a speedster named Dash in The Incredibles kinda negates any accusations of plagiarism), and it’s pretty much exactly the sort of charming all-ages book the blogosphere keeps saying it wants.

It’s also the only comic that my traditionally non-comics-reading girlfriend reads every month, which hopefully says something about its broader appeal.

T, I don’t mind changing the characterization much if its for the better (I think the first two issues was for the interesting if not for the better, but that quickly ended). The ridiculousness is that they changed Angel Salvadore’s ethnicity. Judging by the latest issue, she’s apparently white with a slight tan now. It’d probably be offensive if it wasn’t so goofy and confusing.

I wish you could remember that post Brian, I’d love to read it. Be great if we could compile a list of abrupt, inexplicable personality change. I can think of two more abrupt personality changes offhand, both with New Warriors ironically enough. After Nicieza left the book, Evan Skolnick was writing and had Justice as a real standoffish dick. Then the book was cancelled and Busiek had him characterized as a total tool over in the Avengers.

I am just noting that, from a creatorâ€™s standpoint, I sympathize with Rucka

I do and don’t at the same time.

If the changes to Harvey were from editorial (wasn’t DC meant to get darker so IC could make it lighter at one point?), and he didn’t want to, then yeah, it’s gotta be annoying.
If it was his idea, then I hope it’s a lesson to all writers about trashing a character in a franchise, for the sake of one or two story lines, or because you personally don’t like them.
If you don’t like them, put them on the bus (as Christopher Priest says).

Oh yeah, Funky, I agree that Bullock was totally ruined by Rucka (and, to a lesser extent, Brubaker), for seemingly no good reason.

I am just noting that, from a creator’s standpoint, I sympathize with Rucka.
