I've been reading Garth Ennis's work since his Hellblazer days. I thought he peaked at Vertigo's PREACHER. his Marvel Knights run, and Hitman series were just fun to read. This was until he started writing PUNISHER MAX. He digs deeper into Frank Castle's psyche, and does in-depth research about everything crime related. SLAVERS was the saddest series I've read. Here he deals with an issue he can never solve and can't stop. It couldn't get any truer than this. It's an eye-opener for those who only read Punisher for the fun of it.

Every story arc is so detailed and well-researched, he can make the readers believe that the Punisher could exist... well, maybe not all story arcs (like mother russia and barracuda). I won't be reading PUNISHER when Ennis leaves. His is the definitive Punisher.

I will weep sad, sad tears when the last issue of Ennis' Punisher hits the stands. I was never a huge fan of his Knights run, but the MAX series - jaysis, the *first arc*, "In the Beginning", with Microchip. Just absolutely phenomenal.

Jaysis, just read this incedible issue. To the naysayers, I say if this is one note comics, it's the only note I ever need to hear.

I'm dropping the book once Ennis leaves. The new guy may be good, but Ennis fucking owns The Punisher.
It's the same reason I haven't been reading Fraction PWJ, though I read issue four and loved it. Even Ennis' earlier Marvel Knights Punisher stuff, while lots of fun, doesn't touch his Max stuff. I picked up the first issue of the Kitchen Irish arc while on random visit to the comic shop and it brought me back to the hobby after a long hiatus.

A fantastic issue and an all-around fantastic arc. Each time I go into my LCS to pick up my copy of Punisher MAX, I get sadder and sadder that Ennis's run is coming to an end. I hope that whomever comes next on the book -- I am told that the title *will* continue -- will respect everything that Ennis has done/accomplished with it. If, for example, the next writer attempts some sci-fi resurrection of Barracuda, I will drop the book faster than a hot potato.

There's one more story arc after this one. It'll be Ennis' last.
