Strange, in the 90s you couldn't give away giffin's humor books like Vext and Heckler and here are people coming out of the woodwork for Ambush Bug. I don't get it. But yeah, I'll be buying the TPB as soon as it's out (I'm in Red China with no comic shops).

I have mixed feelings about this. I loved every appearance of Ambush Bug (except for the terrible Supergirl issue) from his second appearance in DCCP right up to the end of Son of Ambush Bug. Somehow nothing since has hit that same standard for me.

Of course I'll still buy the thing!

I was going to avoid any miniseries in future but this year with Secret Invasion, Final Crisis and now this its tuning out harder than I imagined. REALLY good to have the Giffen/Loren Fleming team back together on one of the titles I've most enjoyed ever

Shaw and Morrison have stated that this definitely wasn't the end for Captain Carrot and there is more planned... Morrison even commented that he'd never write a story where the "badguys" would win. It's all up to DC (and readers) if issues 4, 5, and 6 will ever see the light of day. Everything is pretty much plotted out, though. I guess sales of the trade will be a deciding factor, too... And it's not like the entire Zoo Crew was turned into animals either. Pig-Iron is still on Earth-C (or 26, or whatever it is now), so between him and the Just-A-Lotta-Animals, it's a pretty safe bet that the Zoo Crew can be brought back. Worst case, I guess we can wait another 25 years for it...

The ending was dictated to Shaw! and Morrison by Didio to make it a Countdown tie-in, so it had basically nothing to do with the rest of the story and felt really out of place. It also involved the heroes all failing spectacularly and losing their powers, among other things.

(Honestly the details are so bizarre you really need to get a hold of a copy. And DC needs to publish their long-overdue Zatanna & Captain Carrot mini-series.)

If you were a Captain Carrot fan who sincerely enjoyed the tone of those crazy-ass old books, it was kind of a kick in the head. At the end of Oz-Wonderland War the characters were at least preserved in amber, and the end of Whatever Happened to Captain Carrot? was at least somewhat hopeful.

The ending of Final Ark is apocalyptic and somewhat depressing, and it's pretty unlikely the project is going to get green-lighted for a follow up to let the characters set things right. I'll be honest and say that I liked it by itself, but if there's never a Captain Carrot project again then it was a lousy send-off for the characters.

Andrew - At the end of the Captain Carrot mini, they got turned into "real" animals on New Earth or Regular DCU Earth or whatever. That said, Bill Morrison isn't the original writer of Captain Carrot. Giffen & Fleming *are* the classic Ambush Bug team. That makes a big difference. Anyway, I can't wait. Ambush Bug is one of my favorite things ever, and I don't imagine they'll let me down now.

I've never even read an Ambush Bug story before and I am happy about this news. DC needs a good lighthearted book that also skewers/comments on some of their recent storytelling trends (such as deathdeathdeath, etc.) It would be nice if they could put out a collection of the earlier minis and specials, even if it's a Showcase edition.

And I missed the recent Captain Carrot mini, what was it about the ending that got people up in arms so much...?
