Here’s a look at Mark Bagley’s FIRST artwork for DC Comics, depicting the “Trinity” of Wonder Woman, Superman and Batman (click on the image to enlarge).

WONDER WOMAN LOOKS TERRIBLE BUT I LIKE THE OTHER 2

Looks…exactly like Bagley art.

Yay?

Yikes.

I think it’ll improve though.

I like the Batman. WW and Superman look… odd.

What’s with the writing across WW’s leg? What’s it supposed to say?

Bagley did a crossover Spider-Man/ Batman comic a back in 1995.

P.S. I’m not really sure if Bagley did anything else for DC before this Spider-Man/Batman comic though, but sure if it’s the first or not.

Superman’s got some serious bed head there. Looks like he’s nursing a super-hangover.

I understand he’s got some storytelling chops and he’s fast . . .but I’ve never liked Bagley’s art. It’s just so boring to me, and without any kind of stylistic flourish that I’d prefer.

Bagley’s art to me seems to be an uncomfortable mixture, like he can’t decide whether to be cartoony or realistic.

Ugh…It’s like watching my Mom kiss my step-dad for the first time all over again.

OK, some serious work with model sheets needed here…

Bagley’s Superman looks like Jimmy McNulty from The Wire…

dammit, Danx… you’re right, aren’t you?

Is Bagley drawing the old Wonder Woman emblem as opposed to the new one that’s a combination of the original bird and the two W’s? Bagley’s okay, but one thing I hate about him is how he draws people in the background. They always are staring straight ahead at the reader with a glazed over vacant smiling expression and smile that’s something like a mix of mild retardation and tripping on mushrooms. Look at any of the early issues of Ultimate Spidey and see the people in the background just staring straight ahead at nothing and you’ll see what I mean.

Wonder Woman’s face is Ultimate Aunt May’s. And Superman’s arms, from his hands to the musculature look amateurish.

But Bagley’s one of the strongest story-tellers in the business and a model for how consistency and hard work can pay off both on a critical and commercial level. This new book is going to be a lot of fun to read, I imagine.

OMFG, LOLZ @ wonder woman’s horseface.

woo, that’s fugly.

Wonder Woman looks like one of the bugs from Antz:

(Second pic down).

Superman looks like he’s sweating out a particularly nasty curry.

All in all, my professional opinion is that this comic will suck. Thanks.

I agree with Langhorne, I expect despite other faults Bags will deliver as far as storytelling and clarity go. Me, I’m passing on this just because based on recent DC history this will be full of in-story worship of the big 3, oh I’m sorry, the TRINITY (how pseudoreligious and indicative of the level of worship we can expect to see in the pages of the book). If I read the word “iconic” one more time in reference to a DC comic I’ll puke.

“Is Bagley drawing the old Wonder Woman emblem as opposed to the new one that’s a combination of the original bird and the two W’s?”

It’s an old picture from 2002.

They just all look haggard to me.

No sir, I don’t like it.

It’s so nice to see how many other people are distinctly NOT fans of Bagley’s. I thought I was the only one who could see that the emperor was nude.

No kidding. Ever tried to explain to an Ultimate Spider-man fan why Stuart Immonen is a good addition to the book?

No, I don’t talk to those people. But I can imagine.

Batman looks okay… which is to say, his cape covers pretty much everything.

Wonder Woman looks like any given high school character in ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ in a Wonder Woman costume.

Actually, she looks exactly like a girl I went to high school with. 90 pounds soaking wet, and half of those were in her chest. Nothing says Amazon princess like model-thin with big tits.

Superman looks… ah, I can’t top the Jimmy McNulty comparison (I always thought Dominic West looked exactly like a Frank Miller drawing, but I guess his face just looks illustrated in general).

I guess bagley’s characters look better when you don’t see thier eyes.

I like the Batman, the Superman seems to be a little to angular, and the Wonder Woman just looks a little bit like a generic Bagley female to me (she looks straight out of Ultimate Spiderman).
Tat said, I’ll reserve full judgment as these are pictures taken out of context, cropped and repositioned etc.

Bagley did a one shot “Power Company: Sapphire” with Busiek in 2002.

-Steve!

They’re all pretty generic, but Wonder Woman is the least appealing. At least Superman has an expression on his face. Batman is always a sourpuss, so that doesn’t count.

That’s where this drawings is from, Steve! :)

OMGWTF. I thought I was the only one who didn’t like Bagley. I could not read ultimate Spider Man because of his art, but now that Immonen is on board, I love the book. Dude’s faces are just ugly. Kind of like Drea Divito’s, but don’t get me started…

Looks a bit like Superduperman.

Am I the only one out there who thinks Mark Bagley isn’t very good? He has always seemed to me like a poor man’s George Perez, (less detailed but just as crowded with characters). Bagley’s control of anatomy is questionable (Wonder Woman’s lips and eyes and neck are an example) and his layouts for panels are somewhat boring. His recent work on Mighty Avengers was very lackluster, possibly due to the drab coloring, but what some people would call “style” on Bagley I see really just as a certain lack of artistic confidence. He’s always appeared to me like he was reaching for a style that would set him apart, but is never daring enough to actually go all the way to meet it.

Um, if you read the comments before yours, they should answer your question.

Wow. I hope that’s old, for it’s horrible … and then it shows that his WW is his inspiration for Ultimate Aunt May! It’s so her face! B

ut why post what he did first for DC? To make his art look better when it gets here for “Trinity”. It’s cool they snatched a Marvel Biggie to their side, but I’m still not going to buy another weekly comic from DC.

I stopped Countdown (wish I had done it sooner) but loved 52 but I just don’t feel like getting the equivalent of four titles a month anymore. I’d rather actually get four actual titles than of one.

I liked his art in Ultimate Spider-Man because his style suited it … especially with teenage heroes but aside from that I’m not a big fan of his either.

But, I guess DC is really trying to win fans over again after the continuing plunging sales of Countdown … and to try and get some Marvel zombies over here … especially that Spidey is pretty much weekly.

(BTW, speaking of Marvel Zombies, anyone notice that the flesh eating kind aren’t actual zombies … it’s a virus. Even Romero pointed out that zombies today aren’t.)

[...] Mark Bagley’s art for DC’s new Trinity weekly looks like Howard Porter circa JLA #1. [...]
