Mattel has made great strides with DC comic superwomen. I wish they would do more with Marvel women. The last Marvels were Electra and Invisible Woman. Id love to see, Ms Marvel, Spiderwoman, Emma Frost, Phoenix, Storm, Rogue and even Mystique. They could even come out with box sets with Ken as Cyclops, or Tony Stark. Does anyone feel the same?

"It’s pretty cool to do smething like this and give girls (I know I’m being sexist, sorry) something they can have to play superhero with that is theirs. After all, no eight year old boy will want to play with a Barbie. Now She Ra on the other hand.."

Plenty of boys play with Barbies. I played Barbies with my girl cousin every time I went to my aunt's house. I also played with She-Ra dolls. She-Ra is so much cooler than He-Man.

The Wondy is nice like a cross between the high end late nineties doll and the one from a couple of years ago.

The Batgirl is awesome blows the last one away.

Black Canary is sporting my least favorite costume (OK the "wetsuit" from the early 2000's sucked worse). Why not a classic fishnets and jacket?

And hey how about a Catwoman? One that, you know, actually LOOKS like Catwoman...

I like "*name subject to change" thing. Really
Mattel?

"Foolish question: Aren’t Barbie dolls intended—at least theoretically—for little girls?"

And we certainly don't want any of THOSE reading comics, do we?

JackFear, I think you are ignoring the fact that there is a major collector's market for Barbie dolls, which these are clearly meant for. While at its core, the Barbie line is meant to be toys for little girls, a large number of the dolls are created each year specifically for collectors.

Secondly, you are making a huge leap by labeling the Black Canary doll a "dominatrix." Fishnets and a leather jacket are hardly dominatrix wear, for one. Also, as I've stead above, these are obviously meant for collector's and the folks who would let their kids play with these should be responsible enough parents to decide whether or not their kid should be playing with a doll dressed so provoctaively (which really isn't that bad when you compare it to the highly inappropriate Bratz dolls, which are actually marketed towards children).

Hmmm, I like the more old-school Batgirl Barbie that came out a few years ago better -- I'm not sure if it's because it's less fetishy, or despite that.

"I think its pretty awesome that they branched out from the mainstream by throwing in Black Canary."

Yeah, cos every child needs a dominatrix action figure.

Those are pretty cool. I think its pretty awesome that they branched out from the mainstream by throwing in Black Canary. My fiancee has the old Harley Quinn Barbie which is proudly displayed in our office amongst all of my action figures and statues. I think we might need to expand her collection with a few of these!

My wife collects Barbie Dolls with as much passion as I do comics......I love it when the two interests actually cross over. She has all the other comic book related dolls released by Barbie/Mattel.

Cool Idea.

Oh and for anyone that is interested. The older ones that came out (and are still available in some stores btw) had little lunchboxes and metal keychains specific for the character.

My three year old daughter will be the happiest girl in the world when she gets the Wonder Woman doll. She loves Wonder Woman beyond all reason, and it's clearly just because of the costume because she can't read and hasn't seen any Wonder Woman episodes or JLU cartoons.
