Comments on: Graphic novels: old ones, new ones, "borrowed" ones, and blue ones - you could get married with these books!

I've got the first couple of volumes of The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service and the first volume of Berlin sitting in my "to read" pile.

I must get around to them at some point

They donâ€™t seem to be printed as well, and for all of the artistry that goes into them, I would think the author/artist would want them to be collectible.

Why?

They wouldn't get any money from that. I'd assume they'd want it to be around and easy to find so that people can buy it and read it, thus fulfilling them creatively and financially.

I really enjoy Kurosagi - it has a neat mix of creepy & humourous stories. The second volume is great, though it's a bit different - it's one long story.

No modern comic will be worth keeping for the purpose of later selling it.

The worth of a comic or graphic novel is in the reading. You should change your name to "Comic Book Collector".

These look like a great series of graphic novels - I'll have to pick some of them up. I just wonder, will graphic novels ever be as collectible as comic books are? They don't seem to be printed as well, and for all of the artistry that goes into them, I would think the author/artist would want them to be collectible. Remember the old Goo series, or the early Fantastic Four? Those are now worth quite a bit. Will these ever be worth keeping beyond the first read?

I'm glad you reminded me of how cool Interman is. Makes me want to pull it off the shelf again! I liked Houdini: The Handcuff King. you're right that it's slight (both in length and story), but I think it succeeds pretty well as juvenile fiction (or whatever we're calling books for kids these days). And I loved Berlin, but I hope it concludes before I die. There's an office pool going right now* betting on who will finish first, Lutes on Berlin or Shanower on Age of Bronze. *note: this is a bold lie.

Honestly, Greg, knowing your tastes and interests, I'm astonished you never read Berlin.

It's both excellent AND right in your wheelhouse! It continues to be good, too.
