I know I did a bit on it already, but this picture was far too cool to not post.

It's hard to get the scope of that jump in this picture, though. Very little point of reference. Regardless: that dunk is amazing.

It's a dude flying while wearing a Superman costume!! That's some pretty big scope right there, no?

I watched the YouTube video.
It really wasn't all that "super" of a jump.
Michael Jordan would have done it better.

You're right - Jordan probably could have done it, as well.
But do note that Howard is five inches taller than Jordan and weighs a good 30-40 pounds more, which makes the fact that he can leap as far as he can even more impressive.
Rare to see a big man do what Howard did here.
That said, yeah, the dunk was more about presentation than actual athleticism. You should look up Howard's LATER dunk on YouTube - it was a lot more impressive, on strictly skill level basis.

I love how almost everyone is on their feet, seemingly in awe, cameras busy close up, almost as if a crowd suddenly witnessed a man flying thru the air. That's how I'd imagine a Marvel Manhattan crowd on a "typical" day.

I love the look on the face of the kid in the white shirt.

Jordan probably would have done better, but he would have been too busy raising people from the dead, walking on water, solving the Balkan and Middle East crises, writing a best-selling novel and a handy guide to life at the same time, turning the Charlotte Bobcats into champions, donating his sperm to scientists so they could breed a new race of advanced humans, committing offensive fouls but not getting called for it, and helping an old lady across the street after retrieving her purse from a mugger.
Oh wait, that's ridiculous - the Bobcats suck.

its certainly awesome, I also love that people were arguing whether it was a dunk or not

And I still can't see how there's even an argument! I mean, the parameters of dunking are pretty clear, yes? I don't see how anyone could watch the replay of this and say that it was actually a dunk.
It looked very, very cool, but it'll probably go down as the worst dunk ever to be awarded a 50, and like Brian said, his later dunks were much, much better. Howard was totally the deserving winner, but this particular dunk shouldn't really count.

But he still would have failed in baseball.
