Leap Day Battle!!
- by Brian Cronin
- in General
There is only one good cover featuring Leapfrog prominently in existence, but luckily for us, Marvel has done it TWICE! Gene Colan drew it for Daredevil #25, but it was used later on when the book was reprinted, but the reprint edition (Marvel Adventure #4) drastically changes the cover.
The fight is one, then - which cover looks cooler?!?

The first one, because it says "wow-eeeee" on the cover.

And because it mentions Mike Murdock, one of Stan Lee's strangest inspirations ever.

The first one, since it doesn't have all that yellow.

I'm going to say the first one as well. The biggest change is really the color. And, I'll admit, the second cover definitely catches the eye more, but the color theme is just pointless. At first glance it looks like Daredevil and Leapfrog are battling in the midst of an inferno, but really, they're just in some woods, so why all the yellow and orange? And why change the overall color of Leapfrog, who is suppose to be green?

I'll pipe up for Choice A as well. The colors on the bottom one are almost painful to look at.

The first one. Leap-Frog is green.

Is there one with Spiderman in the middle and two of them on either side with him? I don't remember the series or issue though.

Why you must mean Amazing Spider-Man #266 of course!

Choice A because it's using Colan's inks whereas Daredevil has been re-rendered by one of Romita's Raiders on the reprint.

I think he means

Also, my favorite Frog-Man cover:

The first one for the colors and the huge "WOW-EEEE!" on top.
The second cover is weaker due to the color scheme and the inserted DD dialogue bubble that makes him sound like an idiot.

The first one wins. And that Leapfrog VS. Toad cover is hilarious.

Note that FROG-MAN has appeared on a number of covers, but this is the only good one starring Leapfrog, his villainous father.

Cover A, easy. First off, as many have noted), the colors are much better; secondly, the first logo is much cooler and doesn't get in the way of the art like "Marvel Adventure" does; and finally, "wow-eeee!" is fun, whereas "When lunges the Leap-Frog!" is just clunky.

I think Kyle was referring to THIS cover from Spectacular Spider-Man 185, a really great issue.

#1. It seems to have more of a Gene Colan personality to it, rather than the "Gene Colan filtered through John Romita" personality of the second cover.

I like the second one better.

Did Frog-Man appear on the cover of that New Defenders issue he appeared in?
(Best line... from either Angel or Iceman, responding to Frog-Man's desire to join the Defenders: "We already have someone who jumps around like you do."
