Beast was still human looking when I was growing up. I remember when he was turned into blue ape Beast and I was not pleased.

As for cat beast, I much prefer the majestic lion look. I hate it whenever an artist follows Mr. Cassaday’s design. Lion Beast wouldn’t have appeared fat and frowsy compared to Dark Beast in the multi-part “Endangered Species”.

As for the current version of Scott, I think that he and Emma deserve each other.

I’ll take the Avengers-era look for Beast over kittycat Beast any day, but then I was never a huge fan of the Beauty and the Beast TV series.

I grew up with “ape” Beast, too, but while the change to the cat form was a shock, at first, it’s grown on me. Beast’s former, uh, form didn’t really have much to offer. Maybe if he really had looked like an ape instead of, you know, “Blueverine,” I’d want him to go back, but for me to cry for a return to an older version of a character just because it’s the one I saw when I was a kid? That’s “OMD/BND” territory right there, and that ain’t cool…

I very surprised that I’ve enjoyed Scott & Emma as a couple in Whedon’s run. Never had too much trouble accepting it. Perhaps it helps that I wasn’t reading the X-Books for years.

And I LOVE the Ape-Beast. That’s the one I grew up on, and that’s the one that will always seem like the “real” Beast to me. John Cassiday made me grow to like the cat design, though.

I’ve never been a fan of putting Emma in the X-Men, period. I always thought her reformation seemed forced and unconvincing, sort of a “we need a new edgy character in the X-Titles, so the White Queen suddenly feels remorseful about all the terrible things she did! But not, y’know, too remorseful, because, hey, edgy.” Sort of like what they did with Sabretooth, except that it didn’t take there because it was immensely unpopular with readers. So every development that has made her more a part of the team has seemed less convincing and more forced, because I still just fundamentally can’t see her as a person with any natural empathy at all. She’s a selfish, horrible person. That’s how she’s written, even now. I don’t see why a person like that would be in the X-Men.

And ape beast, period. It’s one of the all-time classic character designs, timeless and elegant and just sharp as hell. If I were writing a Beast comic, he’d be in ape form by the end of issue #1.

I like Cat Beast. The form is regal yet still emphasizes his dual nature of intellectual trapped by his body and instincts.

I’m also glad to no longer confuse his silhouette with Wolverine and that he lost that bizarre hairstyle.

I dunno – Adrienne Frost wasn’t really ever on a team, was she?

She was just headmistress for a few issues.

Although, that WOULD be a really good Cover Theme in the future, Philip (once hopefully everyone forgets you suggested it ) – to have a cover featuring, say, Adrienne on one cover, Vulcan on one and, like, Sabretooth Count Abyss on another one, and have it be your answer!
