Example: How much have you heard about Mark Bagley over the last decade?

Way too much. Every single series he’s worked on gets him praise, despite the low quality or his art. I specifically remember the over-hyping he got from Thunderbolts.

Seriously, he put out a great Aquaman series.

Basically, my logic is as such. Right now, fans tend to follow creators, not titles. Warren Ellis, Brian Michael Bendis, Geoff Johns, et cetera, all have fans that will buy what they write. Marvel and DC, knowing this, actively seek out “hot” creators to work on their A-list titles. Which means that writers and artists have to work at promoting themselves to fans in order to get work. And any given run on a series, while it might win you overall kudos, gets you praise at the beginning and at the end. (With an occasional, “Have we mentioned how good this is every month?” sprinkled in between.)

Which means it’s to the financial advantage of writers and artists to have short runs on series, to get the maximum amount of “buzz” for their projects, which they need to get work. (Example: How much have you heard about Mark Bagley over the last decade? You heard about him when he started Ultimate Spider-Man, you heard a bit about him every so often when people said, “And month in and month out, Bagley turns out consistently stellar work on Ultimate Spider-Man,” and you’re hearing about him now on ‘Trinity’. His public profile nearly dropped off the radar, not because he wasn’t working, but because he was continuing to work on the same thing for a long time.)

Maybe a Traci 13 series?

Still, I’m really happy for Rogers that DC is giving him more assignments. He’s a great writer, and his career deserves a boost. I’d love to see him on Flash after that back-up feature he wrote with Waid. Booster Gold would be a good fit, too, especially since that book seems to be losing both of its writers soon.

Guesses? Hmmm…how’s about renaming Booster Gold: “Blue and Gold”? I’d say, of all things, THAT would be a pretty good match.

There’s nothing else I can think of that would qualify as a “match”…unless he’s talking about the CHARACTER “Match”, the Bizarro clone of Superboy, currently posessed by Jericho. We haven’t seen HIM in a while. Still, I can’t see Rogers being able to work his now familiar sense of humor into such a book. And I doubt that the market would support it, as there really seems to be no call for THAT book.

Just a guess.

Let’s hope that Pfeifer can keep the goodwill (no pun intended) going.

Please do not jump ship, let’s see what happens and if it doesn’t work, then (we hope) Rogers will return.

I know sales are weak on BB, but I hope they stay strong enough to support the book for a long time to come (long enough for Rogers to return anyway…he he…)

As for Will Pfeiffer…I’m not as sold on his writing as other people seem to be. Yes, Amazons Attack was awful, but even one of his ‘good’ books, Catwoman, has never really grabbed me. So, I’ll try his arc out and see what I think, but I’m not going into it with as much excitement as other people are probably going to be exhibiting….

Pfeifer is a pretty good choice as he’s very good with characters and voice and what not, but Blue Beetle is such a special book.

I think it has to be either Flash (which has a strong family dynamic like Blue Beetle and which he co-wrote some back up stories for last year) or Booster Gold (as Johns announced he’s leaving with issue 12 and Katz may or may not go with him).
