My loyalty to Steve Gerber’s pretty strong.

My loyalty to the Marvel comics corporation is negligible. At best.

And, honestly, I can probably find a better use for my comics dollar by weaning myself off the two Marvel titles I get regularly, anyway.

Most Marvel comics come through the Iowa City library, anyway. So I’ll still read and enjoy the ones I like. I just don’t feel the need to own any more new Marvel comics. It’s not like I don’t have thousands of the damn things already.

Sorry, I should have specified – I meant a tribute in a Gerber comic.

Marvel put theirs in Omega the Unknown because it was a Gerber comic, so I expected some notice in a comic Gerber actually wrote.

I did not mean to imply DC ignored his passing completely! And it totally reads like I did! So sorry about that!

Off to the side… Locus (a science fiction semi-prozine) had a very nice obituary of Mr. Gerber (complete with photo) in this months issue.

I was *very* surprised at the quickness of its appearance; it had to literally be a last second addition.

DC doesn’t update the DC Nation columns for late books, and Countdown to Mystery #6 should have been out two weeks ago (the week before the tribute).

I’m not entirely sure what you mean, Brian. There might not have been a reference in the story itself, but all the DC books from a few weeks ago carried a Gerber tribute on their back page (in the DC Nation section).

Yeah, like I mentioned, their plans for the final issue sound quite impressive. Still, it’s pretty weird to read a comic by someone who passed away before the comic was put to bed, and not have his passing at least noted inside the comic.

I wonder if they’ll wait till the issue where multiple writers are doing their own take on the story? Yeah, it’d be a delay, but it would also be a full issue of tribute, right?

Also, a single page in one issue for Gerber at Marvel is a bit minor to me, imo. Remember the ‘Ringo tributes in Marvel books just a few months back?

Here’s hoping both publishers give him the due he deserves, and soon.
