Kusatta, Tokyo Crazy Paradise, and a couple of titles by Hwang Mi Ri are top of our list at the moment. And on a side note, we are at a loss to explain why publishers are reluctant to touch josei. Surely they ought to be providing product for a demographic that actually has money - we single, 20 or 30-something women who can indulge our addiction rather than merely grazing in the aisles at Borders - and we buy josei titles pretty much on principle in the hopes of encouraging publishers to put out more. If only it were working.

I would love for Hataraki Man to come out here, but now that Anno is taking a medical leave, people may be reluctant to start releasing a series that is on hiatus.

I can't see anyone realistically doing this from a business standpoint (it's over 43 volumes and is yet to be completed), but it would be marvelous if Suzue Miuchi's shojo "Glass Mask" would be available in English. It's a compelling, over-the-top melodrama about a "useless" girl who has the raw talent to become a great actress. She and this other classically trained actress compete for the fabled role of "The Crimson Goddess."

I've been talking to a few publishers about licensing Ookiku Furikabutte and Hataraki Man since last year, but they're reluctant to do sports or josei manga.

Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou. It's a fantastic story and one I would love to have sitting on my shelves in a English language format.

This is a great list. I was going to be sad if Cat Street didn't appear, since it's one of my most wanted licensed. I'd also heard the name Hataraki Man, but hadn't known what it was about -- it sounds freaking awesome!

The one thing I'd add, since it's something I desperately want, is 7SEEDS, by Yumi Tamura, creator of the excellent Basara.

My wish list has Matsumoto on it - who doesn't love space-faring trains? Also Moto Hagi's Marginal and the sequel to They Were 11. Rose of Versailles, Emperor of the Land of the Rising Sun (at least I think that's what it translates to), and Master Keaton round out the list.

I just want to see some classic Matsumoto and Nagai stuff translated. I know that Matsumoto has NEVER sold well in the US, and it breaks my heart because I just flat out love the man's work, absurd notions of manhood, space-trains and everything else.

Cyborg 009 was never finished here I guess it ended up selling really bad, which is a shame. Or maybe the rights got all tangled up Blackjack-style. I'd love to see it finished as well as getting a rerelease of Ishinomori's Legend of Zelda comic.

I'd personally like to see more of Shotaro Ishinomori's work translated. Other than a few later remakes of his earlier material, drawn by other artists, only Cyborg 009 has seen a domestic US release as far as I know of so far.

A few of Go Nagai's more notable series would be nice to see as well, though I'm not sure just how much of that would fly with the domestic market.

I second Pluto.

I'd like to see Bokurano ("Ours") by Mohiro Kitoh, having enjoyed the part of Shadow Star that got published in English. Plot's apparently got something to do with giant robot battles to protect our universe (by wiping out other innocent parallel worlds), but it sounds like another good excuse to put characters through the emotional wringer.

Also, Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei ("Goodbye Mr. Despair"). Surreal black comedy, about a suicidally depressed high school teacher faced with a class of students who are just as messed up in their own particular ways (my favourite being Kafuka the warped pollyanna). Might be a difficult sell, since it's a fair bit heavier in cultural references than the majority of translated titles, but it's a good one. Caution: may leave you in despair.

The two titles I'd love to see are Pluto and Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou. The first is a retelling of a famous Astro Boy story told from the point of view of one of the background characters in a noir style. The second is a glacier-paced slice of life comic about a robot running a cafe at the end of the world. Its excruciatingly slow at times, but it builds up into something wonderful.
