I was talking about girls finding him attractive. You’re talking about him being able to pick up girls. Very different thing. Girls don’t swoon on the internet about guys they’re only interested in for their money. Who would they be trying to fool?

I know for a fact that there are young girls who find Cera attractive because of his looks. Can you show me somewhere where girls are opining about how dreamy Oldman is?

Oh yeah, I’m sure rich, famous and powerful movie star Gary Oldman cannot get young women swooning over him the way Cera does. Suuuure. What a preposterous thought on my part. Thanks for setting me straight there about my ridiculous notion that fame and power can make women find a man more attractive than he is. I need to stop visiting this little place called reality and get more of my knowledge of how the world works from you apparently.

And Apocada, Cera is rich and famous, so of course women like him. That means nothing.

I say Michael Cera is cute enough for a teenage Asian girl to have a crush on.

He did knock up Juno.

And there are lots of young women that would disagree with you about Cera’s attractiveness.

Or they recognize he’s an actor and probably play different parts then they’ve seen him play before.

Gary Oldman is an actor and can play different parts, but I don’t think he can play Pilgrim either. Sometimes talent just isn’t enough, and if the guy already looks wrong for the role (way too dweeby, unattractive and nerdy looking), why bank on “probably” can play against his typecasting, which is also incongruent with the Pilgrim role?

So basically, he looks nothing like Scott and can “probably” do a role different than the non-Pilgrimlike character he’s been doing nonstop, therefore I should realize this is good casting?

Topher Grace would be perfect. His 70s show role is a slightly smarter Scott Pilgrim, he can do the perfect amount of social awkwardness required for Scott rather than all out misfit dweeb Cera specializes in, and is about as good-looking as I’d imagine a real-life Scott.

Or they recognize he’s an actor and probably play different parts then they’ve seen him play before. I don’t think Scott Pilgrim is that far removed from other characters he’s played. He hasn’t played anyone exactly like Scott Pilgrim but he’s shown an ability for comic timing and has a likable presence which is something the character needs.

Off the top of my head I can’t think of anyone to play Scott Pilgrim.

There’s no Arrested Development Kool-Aid. Just people who are so trend-obsessed that they would denigrate an expertly-made show just because it’s become popular post-mortem.

And that’s the most hive-minded thinking of all.

I’m not bashing Arrested Development or its quality. I’m just saying that no matter how much you like a show and the actors on it, that doesn’t make actors from said show appropriate to play everyone under the sun. I love The Wire to death, for example, but I won’t let my love for said show turn me delusional to the point I think Bunk, my favorite actor, would make a good Luke Cage for example. I think people are letting their love of AD and Apatow and Cena’s characters delude them into thinking he’s remotely like Scott Pilgrim or worse, Spider-Man.

Or making a stupid joke.

I’m lucky not to have body-image issues at this point.
