As Ross covers go, this one is pretty good (click to enlarge).

Here is Ross talking about it!

I liked the commentary where he talks about intentionally choosing original costumes for everyone, except for the ones where he didn’t.

Yeah, there’s no doubt about it, the fellow has some odd positions on things.

Which commentary? You can’t give a link? This is one of the first sites I check each day, so no, maybe I haven’t come fully prepared with the days news, but I really shouldn’t have to.

Dude, it’s on the CBR front page.

OK, so, yes I checked the main CBR page, but I only ever go there as an afterthought after coming here. I started reading CSBG when it was still on blogspot, so this is where I come first, only occasionally checking out CBR when reminded to by the link here (nothing against CBR, but I usually make my rounds through blogs, only hitting the “general” and “news” comics sites if I have the extra time).
Anyway, you shouldn’t assume that CBR is the only way people get here.

You shouldn’t assume that it’s anybody else’s responsibility to keep you informed.

S’all good, Jack. I put the link in there for ya!

I like how although it’s by no means an homage cover, it gives a little nod to both X-Men #1 (in Magneto’s position on the lower left, facing away from the “camera,” right arm outstretched) and Giant-Size X-Men #1 (in Storm’s pose and maybe Colossus’s as well).

Maybe I’m just being grumpy about this, but was commentary on a COVER really needed? I mean he basically just said “I painted this.” Sure it’s a nice picture and all but so what? Alex Ross does covers all the time, why was this one cover special?

Because it’s issue 500. I’m sure Marvel will do whatever they can think of to promote the hell out of it.

Yeah, I’ve never even seen the CBR front page myself. It’s just not even in the scope of things that would attract my attention. So I’m always appreciative when links to referenced articles are provided (thanks Brian!).

I guess I disagree with their idea of a “special” comic. It seemed more like they were saying “A cover by Alex Ross, oh yeah and an issue of Uncanny X-Men comes with it” rather than “We have a kick ass Issue 500 and on top of that a cover by Alex Ross”

It’s just not even in the scope of things that would attract my attention.

That’s not really true, though, is it? I mean, you’re clearly interested in reading about comics and what people think of them, which is a good chunk of what’s on CBR’s front page.

Generally it looks good. Cyclops’ optic blast looks rather odd, though, as if he’s trying to shoot Colossus in the leg.

Don’t like it.
Cyclops is blasting Iceman from behind and Havok’s pose is ridiculous.

Pretty, but much like the current X-Men books, it needs more Rachel Summers.

Apparently Alex Ross hasn’t seen what the X-Men look like since the early ’90s. Writers get shit on for not doing any research but all the artist has to do is look a pictures! It’s silly of marvel to promote a huge issue like number 500 of one of rtheir top series with images that people may not recognize.

Wait, that can’t be Alex Ross work. I see characters in there that were created after 1980!

[…] you’ve probably already seen it a dozen other places by now (CBR being one of them), but I just have to […]

Hey Apodaca (or Dan, is it? I don’t know whether I rate calling you that), good point. You’d think that my obvious interest in the Good Comics blog (I’ve been reading since the Blogspot era too) would translate to broadening my horizons, but for some reason, it just doesn’t. I’m not sure if I can explain it, but I pretty much get all my comics news and blog talk from this blog and The Beat’s. I very occasionally (maybe once a week) check Kalinara’s, Calvin Pitt’s, Johanna Draper’s, and Dave Carter’s.

It’s not that I don’t like comics enough or wouldn’t find more articles interesting, but I’ve just got too many other internet interests and too little time, so I kinda put minimal effort in. I tend to enjoy some of the diversity of posting here (especially Burgas’ non-superhero stuff and I’m enjoying “Manga before Flowers”) and I like some of Heidi’s longer-form articles. So I guess I’ve just found my comfort zone and haven’t felt the need to branch out (though i will follow links to interesting articles discussed on these blogs…).

Anyway, does that make sense? I suddenly feel kinda bad for not giving more writers a shot.

Why is Jean twice on the cover (bothe in her original costume and as Phoenix) or am I missing sometihng?

Anyway, it’s way better than Greg Land’s cover.

Phoenix in her first run wasn’t Jean Grey, who was in a cocoon from X-Men 101 til just before X-Factor 1. Though with all the reboots and resurrections, that may have changed.

Phoenix looks like the girl he did for the cover of JSA sans panties.

“Wait, that can’t be Alex Ross work. I see characters in there that were created after 1980!”

Yeah, notice how they’re all clustered towards the back.

I’m in no way “assuming” that it’s anyone else’s “responsibility”. I’m just pointing out that it would be, you know, nice, to add the context. I was asking a favour, not demanding something as a right.
As I explained, as I started reading CSBG back before it became part of CBR, I always go to CBR *through* CSBG, so even if I were to make it an obligatory daily stop, it would always be second, and posts here maybe shouldn’t just assume that the entire readership is coming here through the link on the main CBR page.

I think it looks awesome

I would love to get it airbrushed on the side of a van

This is one of the first sites I check each day, so no, maybe I haven’t come fully prepared with the days news, but I really shouldn’t have to.

That’s where you’re demanding something as a right.

No, I’m really not. That does not constitute a “demand”, even when dickishly pulled out of context like that, and in the context of the full post merely offers a subjective reaction to the incompleteness of the original post.
