I'm just pretty depressed that Nightly News is almost certainly going to lose to Umbrella Academy. The Boys getting nominated is pretty unexpected and amazing to me, but in light of the most recent arc, I'd have to agree with that nom. It's really turning into something much better than what the first arc would've led most people to believe. I'm a huge fan of Monster too, but I'm guessing both of them will lose to Y. The Karasik story nominated for best short was really powerful, so I'm definitely pulling for that and I Shall Destroy All Civilized Planets as well.

JLA 11 deserves the nomination. The rest of the JLA book deserves to be forgotten. Maybe it is the stench of the other issues that are souring you on this one.

And someone is questioning Iron Fist as a nominee for best new series? Not only should it be nominated, it should win.

People were talking about how good Meltzer's JLA #11 was? Were you people on a different internet? The issue was slammed at the time for wasting Ha given the story in that issue, and how little it gave him to do. That the story was trite and cliche was another matter all together. All Star Superman #6, which came out in the first week of 2007, was miles better and might actually be the greatest Superman story ever told. I'm shocked it wasn't nomanited, but then most of the nominees I have read ranged from middling (Buffy, Fraction's Spidey Annual) to awful (JLA #11, the last year's worth of Y).

JLoA #11 was the best isue of Meltzerâ€™s run (actually, his only good issue), but I donâ€™t see it as one of the best of last year.

Debating what the best Meltzer issue of JLA was is like trying to pick the best smelling turd in a bathroom. No matter what the winner is, it's still gonna stink. I don't think it's pressure to include the big 2, I thnk maybe they just have a hack quota to fill. Last year Loeb was nominated for something, so this year they used Meltzer as their token hack.

Oh yeah, when #11 came out, it was pretty clearly the best issue of the run to that point. I think I even did a blog entry about it, about how it was the best issue of his run so far - but "best issue of Brad Meltzer's otherwise poor run on Justice League of America" is not so good.

The Justice League nomination just had to be a gimme to EW. That's the only excuse I can come up with.

I remember when JLA #11 came out everyone was making a big deal how good it was. I thought it was average at best. Maybe Meltzer's best issue, but that's not saying much. Any of Dini's done in one Detective issues would have been better, or as mentioned any issue of The Spirit.

It must have something to do with what DC submitted for nomination. For reasons passing all understanding, they must have submitted that issue and not any of The Spirit. That's the only explanation I can think of.

No matter how many years go by where I figure I've already read a decent chunk of NEW stuff, the Eisners always come along and prove to me that I don't know crap. That's only half-sarcastic, by the way, but I'm still astounded at some of the great stuff that gets ignored. If you're going to go with "mainstream" superhero stuff, there's no love whatsoever for Stuart Immonen's work?

Sensational Spider-Man Annual #1 is more fitting in this category, but it does look like they're trying to somehow fit into the awards books from the Big Two. That's not really a bad thing, but I'm sure they could've found a better issue than JLoA. Speaking of odd choices, what about Exit Wounds? It got a nominee for Best New Graphic Album and Rutu Modan for Best Writer/Artist, but why not a Best U.S. Edition of International Material?

I think Y the Last Man deserves its nominations. Especially considering this is the last year it will be able to receive them, I think.

Fables has been constantly nominated for the past few years in most of the major awards, but it's noticeably absent this year.

Buffy being nominated as both Best Ongoing and Best New is a bit odd. It should be one or the other. I don't think it's good enough to be in BOTH categories.
