Dan: Comics is escapism, after all, and although a great deal of life is not "needed," escapism provides a wonderful outlet for me. I hope everyone keeps them in perspective (sometimes on the Internet I'm not sure they do), but they are, for me at least, very important.

I would wait for trades, but I do love single issues, and I can always sit down and read them all at once!

Speaking of delays, I was amused to see that Robert Kirkman's 10 favorite comics covers, as printed in the new Comics Buyers Guide, included the front of his own Walking Dead #49 ...

... which, ummm, isn't out yet.

In all honesty, Kirkman's titles (that I read, anyway -- Walking Dead & Invincible) are only rarely beset by delays. Even so, someone should be ashamed. Like, oh, him. And Eric Larsen.

(Kirkman should also be ashamed of including an all-too-typically misshapen Rob Liefeld cover in his gallery of favorites, but then it's well established that for all his good -- nay, *great* -- points, he's almost perversely devoid of taste when it comes to loving Liefeld's utterly fetid garbage. I guess it's sort of like me & my elitist postpunk musical refinement, which somehow accommodates a fondness for ... ahem ... Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire." I own the *cassingle*, for godssakes!)

(There. My darkest secret is out. I'll never be afraid again.)

The delays of some series are pretty ridiculous. In the case of both THE LONE RANGER and THE INFINITE HORIZON, I can see why you would forget what was going on between installments. This, however, just gives me an even better reason to wait and pick up the trades... you get a whole story in a single purchase and that's how it ought to be.

I'm loving LR, by the way. It's great to see westerns make the comeback they have. LOVELESS, LR, and JONAH HEX are all worth buying regularly.

CAPTAIN ACTION seems to have that zany retro feel that I often find hard to resist. I may find myself checking it out, just for kicks. Plus, Fabian is underrated.

Speaking of lunacy, you made me want to read BAD PLANET.

Much thanks for the update on your daughter, Greg -- for whatever reasons, I'd missed any previous references to the accident & its consequences. Somehow, having some familiarity with the Phoenix area (I went to grad school in US history at ASU from 8/81-5/84, & even though I haven't set foot out there in 24 years, Restaurant Mexico in Tempe remains my favorite eating place in all the world) makes your description of the original event all teh more vivid to me. Best of luck to all of you.

Sort of puts comics -- in particular this week (at least as of this writing ... I'm still making my way through my ridiculously expensive pile of new buys), my bewilderment at the, well, utter *irrevelance* (especially given the elevated price) of the Powers Annual (I guess Bendis is too busy helping sucker the sheeplike masses with Secret Invasion, or whatever, to bother with advancing the Powers storylne even an iota) -- in perspective.

Ah, that would be nice, Tim, but I'm stuck in the desert! The closest I come to New York these days is eating at Native New Yorker.

That's cool about Aaron. Maybe I'll have to keep buying the comic!

Thanks, lummox. The Internet rules for lazy people like me!

Yeah, Rich, I flipped through the X-Men book and decided to skip it, despite the Fraction/McKelvie story. That just wasn't enough to get me to buy it. But who doesn't love Scalphunter????

Aaron is on Ghost Rider for at least 18 months, supposedly (the length of his Marvel exclusive, I think). Which is awesome.

Hey, if you're going to be at the NYCC, track me down! Sequart will have my books on sale at booth #2445, and if I'm not there, I'm sure someone will know where to find me.

Re: people finding Rictor in X-Factor. In the last issue Rictor screamed for Monet and she heard him. She flies off to help him and a Madrox dupe and Syrin go after her as backup.

Re: X-Factor and Madrox, your assumption is correct. Hitting the ground sure could produce dupes. He often does it by stomping his foot.

Cap #37 was good this week too, but the couple pages of nightmare might have been the oddest of Brubaker's whole run. I liked Iron Man #28 more than I ever dig that book. Probably helped that there was a down and dirty brawl for half the issue.

Wasn't all that jazzed with the first X-Men: Divided We Stand issue. I was excited about the Fraction/McKelvie team-up on a Nightcrawler story, but it focused heavily on another character I don't care about.

I don't know, I think that the Herc "God Squad" book could be fun, even if Secret Invasion turns out to be the Worst Thing Ever. Which I don't think it will be; it's more likely to just be mediocre with a few decent related issues in the books pulled into the tie in depending on the writers involved (as always). Also, I'm pretty firmly in the "the worst of the 90s are still the worst ever" camp.
