I tried Girl Genius, but I felt a little indifferently to it.

Reading these, I’m led to thing lovingly of what would have been my #1: Strikeforce: Morituri. I love that damn book.

I don’t generally think of Girl Genius in the same way that I think of Marvel and DC, but unlike most webcomics, Girl Genius reads much better in a collected format than it does a page at a time. The story so far is certainly better than anything I’ve read from Marvel or DC lately.

I bought and enjoyed the first collection of this, but unfortunately it seems to perpetually occupy the “Oh, yeah, I should get back to reading that!” slot of my brain. Someday, I promise, I’ll actually buy the second book.

Easily one of the best web comics out there and a personal favourite of mine ever since I spent most of a day catching up on it after finding it for the first time!

Art, story, characterisation, plotting… everything about GG is great. And that’s without mentioning just how unusual and downright inventive the world in which Agatha’s adventures are set is.

GG is vastly better than 99% of everything published, and better than a lot of the remaining 1%, too.

If there’s ever a top 100 web comics poll, it’ll be close to the top of my list.

Piggy-backing off of the price-of-comics thread, I think it’s worth mentioning that cartoonists like Foglio and Onstadt of Achewood make their living with publicly-accessible web comics. When the only barrier to holding a readership is literally holding their attention, how much of what’s displayed in the comic stores can claim they can do even that? That if they gave it away, they still wouldn’t be met with indifference?
