Unknown Soldier was an early fave of mine when I discovered comics as a kid. The issue where he teams up with Batman in Brave & The Bold was one of my first ever comics. The image of the bandaged secret agent was always very striking and memorable to me. I enjoyed his solo adventures as well.

Can honestly saw I've nevr read any of the classic Rock comics...

DC's war comics were my gateway drug, but I was never a big fan of Sgt. Rock. Or Unknown Soldier, for that matter. Haunted Tank, The Losers, The War Time Forgot and Enemy Ace all had better stories.

I disagree. Yeah, I liked a number of David Michelini's brooding, serious work early in the Unknown Soldier's canon, but a lot of the later Bob Haney stories made him into a "superhero type" running around in his bandages. Ugggh. At least Kanigher wrote a number of individual classics for Rock - "Gimme Sky" and "Return to Chartes" come to mind. There was such a development of Rock's character over the years; seems to go underappreciated.

Maybe a higher percentage, but more individual good stories? I don't know if I can buy that. Rock's been around for a long time, and had a lot of good writers working on him.

Especially because you can take pretty much any good comic story and claim he was there in disguise.
