Will we ever get to see the Rebirth review?

I just got the sucker in trade, curiosity got to me, and am enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would.

I just read REBIRTH for the first time a few eeks ago and, honestly, I'd like to see someone's thoughts on it. Because, while I enjoyed it, I couldn't begin to fathom quite why.

I second your comments of support for MOON KNIGHT; it really is one of the best books coming out from Marvel these days, despite the mis-step of Huston's second arc. It's a worthy successor to Doug Moench and Bill Sienkiewicz's run in the 80's (we'll just pretend Chuck Dixon's 90's series didn't happen, lol).

Yeah, Ron, ace mentioned that up above too. I didn't know the "undo" command and didn't think of going into Word and see the command. I'm just stupid that way. Now that I know, I won't be taken by surprise again! Of course, it doesn't help me now! Oh well.

You do know that you can "undo" you type by pressing control-z. Right?

Am I the only one who knows this?

JBird: As someone who has never been a GL fan, and certainly never cared much about whether or not Hal or Kyle gets the ring... Emerald Twilight, the story in which Hal goes bad, was terrible. If you like J.M DeMatteis' singular writing (esp. Moonshadow, Blood, Seekers, Man-Thing) (I'm a fan, but I don't like every JMDeM story I've ever read), you'll probably like the Hal Jordan Spectre series.

I haven't read Rebirth, so I'm curious: Does it work as a story, or just as a reboot/ continuity fix? I'm interested in your take, Greg.

sleeper: I've been a fan of Moon Knight for years, so I probably view the book more favorably than most, but I do think it's gotten much better since the second Huston story arc, which was a mess. I think lots of people were turned off by the outrageous violence of the first couple of issues and never came back, which is unfortunate.

I do like that cover of Contract. First Salvo has been around in Preview for a little while, but I think they only have one book out right now and now this one. We'll see if they manage to stick around.

That's kind of how I felt, Alan (except I've never seen all of Showgirls). I love the craft that Wood and Kelly put into Local, but I wondered, "Is that it?" It's still an amazing comic, but not as excellent as it could have been.

I read the entire Local series. I felt let down with the last issue. It reminded me of the movie Showgirls. In Showgirls, the girl blows into town, a bunch of stuff happens, then she blows out of town. Life goes on.

If I wanted to read about life goes on, I'd write an autobiography and re-read it every month.

I vote "yes" on the annotations. Sorry about the WordPress mishap.

CAPTAIN BRITAIN AND MI: 13 reminds me of THE ORDER in that it's an under-read comic destined to be ignored by the vast majority of the comics reading population because it's too cool to fill its pages with Wolverine. Death for being too hip (at least, that's what I'm assuming judging by reviews I've seen online... I haven't picked it up yet).

I'm not sure if CONTRACT is any good, but that's a striking cover. Very stylish. I must be out of the loop... I haven't heard of First Salvo until just now.

You are almost definitely the internet's most outspoken MOON KNIGHT fan. I'm blown away by your devotion to this title. You should get a kickback from Marvel.

Anything on Rebirth or really anything about Hal's fall and redemption would be appreciated, because as a latecomer to the DC deal and a fan of this hot new GL/GLC, I'm horrified and fascinated by the series' past and haven't touched it. To me, without reading any of it, a classic hero's transformation into a supervillain and his redemption as the gory left hand of God sounds gutsy, gritty, and awesome, while Parallax as some sort of space alien and Jordan's return to the Corps sounds dumb and forced. I'm assured that the opposite was true in execution, so commentary would be helpful in deciding what collections to buy.

I just reread Green Lantern: Rebirth last week. We are on the same wavelength, Greg. Scary, eh?

I enjoyed it even more this time, after seeing what Johns did with the concepts and ideas established/foreshadowed in Rebirth. It will be interesting to see what you have to say about it, tell you you're wrong, and escalate a blog war that leads to the fragmentation of the blogosphere into multi-colored factions.

Regarding CONTRACT #0:

" one issue has already been solicited, so why have an issue that helps you decide if you want to order it when the first issue has already been offered before you can make up your mind about it?"

Madeiros posts on a forum I visit, apparently issue #o was supposed to come out before issue #1's initial order deadline, but due to a shipping error it arrived later than desired. It was still on time but the creators DID want it out sooner.
But remember, you still have over a month to ask your comic shop to put in an order, the first issue is slated for late July and even AFTER it has hit the shelves you can still put in a re-order.

I don't count the drug-addict boyfriend, because he didn't seem to have much effect on her. The first issue was mostly in her head, and we don't have any reason to believe the boyfriend did anything awful to her. Yes, it was a bad relationship, but everyone has those. I considered the hostage-taking, but again, she was largely a passive participant. Again, I would agree that it's traumatic, but I didn't get that it was so terribly traumatic to her personally. I don't agree that it accounts for her bad behavior. I think that's more of her upbringing.

Local is a good reason why I'm not a huge fan of "life just happens" kind of fiction. Life happens to everyone, and although Local is put together extremely well, I DO wonder what the point is. I don't think Megan grows up that much. If we're comparing her to her cousin and brother, both of whom seemed far worse off to begin with, she comes off looking well, but overall, I feel like she's still avoiding adulthood. And I never assume things happen off-camera, because we don't know.

Despite that, I still recommend it, because of the fact that we can discuss this and try to deal with Megan. I want to understand Megan better, and I appreciate that Wood and Kelly don't make it easy on us. That's very cool.
