This was adapted or ripped off into a TV series in the late '90s. I have no idea what it was called, but the show was pretty much X-Men with vampires. There was some guy running a prestigious boarding school who had a secret basement in it where he tried to train young vampires to function out on society without killing people, and it was hinted that the guy was a vampire or something himself, though I don't remember his past actually being revealed.

I was expecting Zeke, Joseph Michael Linsner's vampire from "A Vampire Christmas".
