I agree, Showcase #4 is the birth of the Silver Age. The rebirth of the superhero comic. Which lead to the Justice League. Which was the motivation for Stan to create the FF and Avengers and taa-daa Cap's return.

#21 Is gonna be tough, I think.

Most people would say: #21 Swamp Thing (1st Alan Moore), but it would be tragic to overlook my vote, G.I.Joe #21 (The silent Issue).

That's quite a quandary. I guess you could argue that Showcase #4 launched the Silver Age, and led to Cap's rebirth in Avengers #4. Still, I'm glad I don't have to decide.

There's going to be a tough tough choice at #4. Showcase #4 with the Silver Age Flash or Avengers #4 with the return of Captain America. Two staple characters who both have long running titles. Cap's a little more iconic, perhaps a bit more recognizable, and maybe a bit more important to his comic universe. Flash's TV show was better than Cap's movie. Cap had Kirby. Flash had Infantino. Both key members of their "super team". Both died and were replaced by their sidekicks. No noticable other first in Avengers #4. No villian of note. Not sure about Showcase #4??? If that has Mirror Master or Capt Cold that could break the tie.

dnaka predicted #22 would be Showcase (the first SA Green Lantern). A fine choice. But I wonder if Pep #22 will squeak across the finish line ahead of it? Especially in light of the Ducks at #31 -- we're obviously willing to cast beyond superheroes.

I think #7 should be The New Gods #7, the issue that revealed the Orion/Darkside relationship and clearly inspired Star Wars.
The first appearance of the Skrulls in FF should be #2.
