Time Travel: That West Coast Avengers story was the shit! It had the team lost in the wild west and ancient Egypt, helping the Fantastic Four when they first met Rama Tut (without meeting them!), being helped by Dr. Strange (without knowing it), Hawkeye being responsible for the creation of the Moon Knight, Hank Pym attempting suicide, Firebird (or La Espirita) giving him a reason to live (if you got a chance to do it with a hot nun, you would want to live too!), and Mockingbird being kidnapped, and brainwashed by Phantom Rider. WHEW!

The covers: All three were children of JSA members (Liberty Belle II is daughter of LB I and Johnny Quick; Fury II is adopted daughter of Miss America; Dr. Fate is son of Hawkman I and Hawkgirl I)

Best time travel story? Well, I can’t remember the issue, but to my nine-year-old slef at the time, Iron Man and Doctor Doom meet King Arthur and have to team up to get home… Very reminiscent of a current Mighty Avengers story too….

It gob-smacked me! I’m sure if i read it again today, it probably wouldn’t have the same impact, but at the time, it was pure genius!

Then you should get the Iron Man: Doomquest HC that recently came out!

It reprinted their first time travel team up to the time of King Arthur (from Iron Man #149-150) and their second (Iron Man #249-250)!

mrjayberry - thanks for that! But I think there must have been an issue of Iron Man the sprouted the What If!... because I remember a sequence where they end up cannibalising both their armours (with thought bubbles declaring their grudging respect for each other's designs) and BOTH of them returning home...

Is there an Iron Man guru out there who can put my mind to rest???

OK... How about there all the children of TWO All Star Squadron members! We never did find out who Lyta's father actually was. Leaving many to assume it was Arn Munroe...

When trying to come up with a favorite time travel story that hadn't allready been mentioned, I couldn't come up with a single great DC example. Rock Of Ages aside, any other great non-legion time travel arcs outthere from DC?
The JLA/JSA crossover where they rescue the Seven Soldiers Of Victory was pretty fun but I don't know if it belongs on a list of the best time travel stories

Blackjac-I have the What If? that tells the stroy of what would happen if Dr. Doom tricked Iron Man and stranded him in King Aurthors time. Still just a fun story

I think the cover theme game featured characters with too much in common. In addtion to the answers above, they were children of All Star Squadron members.
EVERYone was a child of an All-Star Squadron member!

It's like saying "they all have costumes!" :)

Yeah, Adventure Comics #369 is a classic. So is DOFP, even though loads of people mentioned it. Marvel did run the idea into the ground, which is why last the storyline from Alan Davis' 2nd run on Excaliber also ranks among my favorites, as he wrapped up the story. Well, he wrapped up Rachael's future, at any rate...

"I thought he worked Wendy and Marvin into Teen Titans. The Wonder Twins (Zan and Jayna) were worked into Young Justice by Peter David, I believe"

It was Extreme Justice, by... I have no idea. The book went through about four writers in its 17 issue run. They popped up near the end of the book and really didn't have time to do anything.

"what about the original Avengers story where Hawkeye and Thor (and Moondragon?) visit the old West, meet the western heroes and fight Kang? That was a great story!"

It was indeed. Englehart's a master at those kind of wonky time travel stories.

"It pretty much encapsulates everything great about PAD’s Genis stories and v4 in particular."

PAD's Captain Marvel run is sorely underrated. It's one of my favorites. Funny, exciting, action-packed, thought-provoking, fun and poignant. How often does all of that make it into one series?

Favorite time travel story: Joe Casey did an issue of Cable, where the hero fought Immortus. The sequence of events were all jumbled, leaving the reader to piece together what happened, as the ending revealed the temporary havoc to time that the foes caused. Neat twist... not unlike the movie, Memento, in it's fragmented storyline.

I feel like the "Nearness of You" from Astro City is worth mentioning. (It's really about the after-effects of a time crisis, and it's only a one-shot, but it's a very good one-shot.)

Will "Booster Gold has been very enjoyable!" be in 3rd place on next week's list? :P

Time travel story: Captain Marvel v4, "Odyssey." It starts off small, with Rick Jones trying to write a song to get Marlo back, and builds and builds to the most gut-wrenching final two pages in #24. It pretty much encapsulates everything great about PAD's Genis stories and v4 in particular.
