JUST CAME ACROSS THE FLAGSUIT LIST. I WAS INTERESTED IN THE GOLDEN AGE FLAGWEARING
HEROES AND TRIED TO FIND AN IMAGE ON EACH OF THEM.
ONE I BELIEVE SHOULD BE ON THE LIST IS MAJOR VICTORY FROM CHESLER PUB. IN DYNAMIC COMICS AND HIS OWN TITLE. HE'S GOT THE STARS AND STRIPES AND IS BROUGHT BACK FROM THE DEAD BY FATHER PATRIOT, A SORT OF AMERICAN PATRIOT SANTA CLAUS.
PERHAPS DON GLORY FROM QUALITY, AND CAPT. DASH FROM TIMELY. OUTSIDE OF THE GOLDEN AGE
X-O MANOWAR #10 FROM ACCLAIM HAD BRAVADO (SEEN ON THE COVER), AND CHARLTON PREMIER
#3 HAD SINESTRO BOY FIEND MAKING FUN OF CAPT. U.S.A.
A BLACK AND WHITE COMIC FROM M.A.I.N. IN 1997 CALLED TEST DRIVE HAD A STORY ABOUT THE
SYMBOL (IN COLOR ON COVER A),MIGHT QUALIFY .
ONE NOTE ABOUT CAPTAIN BATTLE JR. I HAVE LIMITED KNOWLEDGE ON HIM, BUT I THINK HE ONLY
WORE A FLIGHT SUIT. HE WAS , WILLIAM THE SON OF JOHN BATTLE, BUT THE KID SEEN ON THE COVERS WITH THE CAPT. SHOULD BE HALE BATTLE (NATHAN HALE),AN ORPHAN TAKEN IN BY JOHN,
WITH A COPY OF THE SUIT.HOPE THIS HELPS. THANKS FOR THE GREAT LISTS, JOSEPH V

i was the writer on 'commander liberty' a title contracted by the now defunct quantum comics about ten years ago (there may have been other writers but as far as i know we were the only team). there was a great artist named ben who did some amazing work. we were given the story outline by the publisher, a guy named kendall stump, which was essentially a rip-off of captain america. but we tried to reframe the whole story with a darker, grittier approach - our hero was from WWI and had seen the horrors of the trenches, he was still a beacon of hope but also jaded and harsh. the pity is the title disappeared when the 'publisher' folded. ben and i went our separate ways and that's where things ended. oh well - such is the nature of the game

I keep remembering more characters for this list.

American Ace
When Dan Jurgens did a run on Solar, A.A. was a World War II hero who eventually became President. He was seen in costume in a few flashbacks.

The Pilgrim from Malibu's Strangers title.
The center character in the linked image

Here's a couple more from Kirkman's Capes series: American Champion and Dr. Justice

Another additions are Left Winger and Right Winger from the John Walker as Cap era. http://www.comics.org/coverview.lasso?id=45239&zoom=4

In the Marshall Law series, there was a patriotically attired female character named Celeste

This is another one-shot that hardly even counts, but the Crusaders who showed up once in the pages of Freedom Fighters as a hardly-even-veiled-at-all analogue of the Invaders had another Americommando as a Captain America clone: http://pics.livejournal.com/buttler/pic/000bwr2b

This was at the same time that the Marvel Spirit of '76 was introduced in The Invaders as part of another Crusaders, a thinly-veiled Freedom Fighters, but at least that guy went on to become a recurring character.

There was an unrelated Americommandos at DC who popped up in Lord Havok & the Extremists (http://pics.livejournal.com/buttler/pic/000bx3hk), and I'm told there were two more Americommandos in Kingdom Come and in Uncle Sam & the Freedom Fighters, but I haven't checked their costumes so I can't vouch for 'em.

@ Tijmen:

Sweet merciful crap, no wonder that costume was blocked from my memory. Glad he's back in the red, white and blacks now.

Energy shield? Really?

Tijmen -- I'll check on Commander Capitalism for the next draft.

Reader Zero -- never heard of Captain Wonder, but I'll look into that one too.

Buttler -- I read up on the Inferior Five's history -- the names of villains they fought in their short-lived series, the names of their parents, etc., a while back, in researching another list (cases where DC and Marvel have independently used the same superhero aliases for different characters), but I must have forgotten all about their "retconned Golden Age superhero parents" when I was editing this list on the night of July 3. I'll double-check those things too, for the Third Draft.

Joe Rice -- my advice is to confront your fears until you get over it! :)

@ Rory:

"I don’t think there’s any blue in USAgent’s uniform."

Actually, that was my first thought too. But as a member of Force Works, back in the happy-go lucky '90s, he ditched his awesome black-red-white costume (one of my personal favorites, btw) in favor of open-faced, blue-white-red duds...with an energy-shield!

Check it out...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Force_Works_no_1.jpg

...I know the sheen of his costume could be considered gray...but that's definitely a sky-blue star he's rocking by way of insignia. Luckily, it's a thing of the past now, but then again, the Savage Dragon (also on the list) isn't dressed in ol' glory anymore either.

Lorendiac, you can get a complete PDF download of all the City of Heroes comics (both Top Cow and the original Blue King runs) here. #17 of the Top Cow run has Ms. Liberty front and center on the cover, and I believe she's the focus of that story.

Brian Mac -- I think all I've got in my collection, as far as "City of Heroes" is concerned, is a TPB collecting the first six issues or so. (Written by Mark Waid, if memory serves?) I'm pretty sure I didn't realize Statesman had any kids or grandkids. Ms. Liberty appears in the comics as well as the game, then? I'll look into it for the Third Draft, which (at a wild guess) will probably be posted one year from today!

I dunno about the Steve Trevor Patriot, but the Patriot and Lady Liberty were the parents of Merryman of DC's Inferior Five.

I guess Lady Liberty's Statue of Liberty costume wouldn't count, but both the Patriot's Uncle Sam getup and Dumb Bunny's mom Princess Power (who dressed just like Wonder Woman) fit the bill: http://www.oddballcomics.com/covers/showcase62-freedom.jpg

Superpatriot had two children named Liberty and Justice who logically also went with the red, white and blue.

Since you've deemed Wonder Woman eligible, I think you could also include Captain Wonder. In Pre-Crisis continuity, he was a merging of Steve Trevor and Dr. Psycho and wore a masculine version of WW's uniform.

Cool list! After spotting Battlestar, Liberty & Justice & 1963's U.S.A. I thought I wouldn't have any additions...but I just remembered "Commander Capitalism", a flag-clad mask-less corporate superhero (looks a lot like J.Jonah Jameson) in a management position at Capes Inc. - who've appeared in Robert Kirkman's Invincible (there was a semi-regular back-up that started in issue 27, I think). But other than that, I'm sure you're nearly there - gotta catch 'em all!

Nice to see the Statesman from the City of Heroes comic on the list (although to be strictly correct, the issues featuring Statesman are Top Cow, rather than Image). For the record, Statesman has a sidekick, his granddaughter, calling herself Ms. Liberty, who would also qualify. In the online game of City of Heroes, Ms. Liberty is often the first "signature" hero a new player meets.
