I don’t think the gun is supposed to be taken literally, as in “this event/storyline/whatever will involve the X-men shooting people” I’m thinking it’s an event where the X-men are finally not sidelined (MC doesn’t count). Maybe it has something to do with the Initiative, the government goes out to get mutants to work for them or else (Cyke already falsely disbanded the X-men to get them out of their backs), and the X-men oppose them, sort of Civil War 2: Mutant Style.

Cyclops has a gun because he doesn’t want to give away that he’s a mutant, summoning more adversity than his power can deal with, and instead has chosen to confront evil as a non-mutant. I’m surprised there’s this much controversy over the meaning of “Nobody’s on our side.”

Doesn’t seem tough to figure out. The mutants have been re-established as the outsiders once again in Marvel, outside of the civil war and the registration battle, and the X-Men under Cyclops have moved from the standard superheroism we saw at the beginning of Astonishing to identity-based guerilla actions and X-Force assassinations of bad mutants. I assumed that Cyclops would be revealed as a Skrull considering what a murderous chieftain he’s become, but barring that, these ads just present a new storyline following everything they’ve established so far.

I’m 99% sure the object is a gun, based on how it is being held (index finger extended, as if on a trigger).

I don’t think it’s Daredevil, maybe it’s Cyclops… hell, Wonder Man wears red sunglasses, maybe it’s dark ‘n’ gritty Wonder Man. No? Okay, it’s probably Cyclops.

The only way it could make perfect sense in the context of the story, is if there was some reason his optic blast would have been ineffective. In which case, that’s different from what I suggested, initially. AKA, insignificant to the argument.

Also, there’s nothing dumb about commenting on what someone (YOU) told me about something. Not only is that definitely something I have read (your post), but it’s totally informed.

I’m saying, “Here’s what I think of what you have just told me about.” I’m not saying “That’s good” or “That’s bad”. I’m saying, “That sounds dumb.”

And please, put your smilies away. It’s embarrassing for everyone.

I defintely think that it is Daredevil and not Cyclops. The glasses look a lot like the generic blind guy glasses that Daredevil has worn in the past. On top of that, he appears to be holding some sort of stick right in front of his face in the picture. So as far as this ONE picture appears to me, Daredevil.

I’m fairly certain that this has to do with X-men or, at the very least, that is what Marvel wants people to think for now.

At Marvel’s booth during Wizard World, “Mystery Project”‘s artist Dennis Calero was rapidly sketching for anyone and everyone. He was calling out character names, producing a sketch, and handing it out. At several points he asked if someone wanted the main character of the “Mystery Project” and, from what I understand, he drew Wolverine almost every time, though my fiancee thinks she also saw him draw Collossus.

Take that for what its worth.

There’s something funny about cigarettes and cigars not appearing on Marvel covers or inside books because they are too dangerous, but handguns are okay. I’m not anti-gun by any means, I just think it’s funny that smoking is considered more harmful than guns.

I seem to remember that one of these images was in CBR’s coverage of the Ultimate universe panel at Wizard World Chicago. I wondered at the time whether that was a mistake, or if Marvel had just been teasing the project at every panel, or if it in fact meant there was an Ultimate connection.

Given the rumors that Ultimate X-Men may be on the chopping block, maybe this points to a relaunch of that book? Either just a new creative direction, or maybe taking the mutants out of the Ultimate universe and keeping the new book self-contained?

Of course, none of that explains why Cyclops needs a gun.

The original promo had a tiny “X” on the glasses and the other promo (the female with green eyes) had an “X” on it too.

It really seems to be pointing towards an X-related something.

Perhaps it is an attempt to steal from the Sin City look in order to boost a Marvel project. Wouldn’t be the first time Marvel stole ideas, nor the last. The biggest fish in the pond does whatever it likes.
