Roy Thomas was the original fanboy pro. That's anything but a compliment.

Well, , They made enormous strides,in developing Rick Jones personality but I didnt care for how he was reduced to playing the role of the fool, when he got his own talk show.It will be most interesting to see how they have him interact with the new cap.Time and time again, the book came back from cancilation through 1970 to 80. A pity that they threw the towel in on the character. What was needed, was membership in the avengers. Aside from Starlin,Gil Kane did a fantastic cm, and even Sal Busema did a great version. Don Heck did the very first apperence in the blue and red costume, but he was in his prime then. I even came to like Al Milgrims version. There were two unfinished plotlines, from cm 56,& MS 3,that I doubt ever will be taken on.

Yeah. That Skrull thing occurred to me too. For all the crap attached to SI, that's one of the more interesting things they managed, because if done correctly, its basically a reset to the original condition of Captain Marvel, with only ONE small difference... the species.

As with the original it can't be a permanent plot, but since we have decompressed writing these days, it could be stretched a bit longer.

One of the more amusing things about Secret Invasion to me is that they used it as a means to take Captain Marvel (or the character currently calling himself that) back to the "conflicted alien invader" status quo, only this time with Skrulls. I just wonder how well that'll play out, provided he survives the cross-over.

Rick Jones and his Teen Brigade were fine as Hulk supporting characters and his "Snapper Carr" days with The Avengers even made sense. But his "I want to be Bucky!" adventures with Cap and his "Don't leave me in the "Negative Zone" days with Mar-Vell to his "I Wanna be A Rockstar" latter experiences in Incredible Hulk made him into a whiney b!tch. This kid once saved the univese during the first Kree-Skrull War for crying out loud - now he needs to complain about travelling in a bus to his next concert? Stupid.

Rick Jones has always baffled me as a character. I just don't know what to think about him.

Captain Mar-Vell was so fresh and original from MSH #12 through his green and white suited escapades during the first year of his first series pre-Zo. Gene Colon's realistic renderings (before he became 'gritty") were excellent. I thought the series hit it's high point in issue #4, when Mar-Vell was perceived the hero battling the Sub-Mariner when he was in fact an invading space alien.

I was intrigued by the drastic change to "cosmic awareness" and inclusion of Rick Jones, but disappointed when it became a modern version of Fawcett's Captain Marvel. Clacking Nega-Bands while shouting Mar-Vell was a horrible fate for the Kree warrior.
