Problem being, your own amusement has exactly zero to do with the point of releasing a promo piece in the first place. Then again, per-issue sales on Amazing Spider-Man are the lowest they've been in years, and the sales drop shows no signs of slowing, so obviously, your own amusement takes precedence over your audience. It’s not a “real” promo; just something Marcos sent in that made us laugh.

Best idea then is not to release a promo piece that isn't representative of the story, because not knowing it's an 'in-joke', people are going to pre-judge based on that image - which is why promo image's are released, for the audience to pre-judge whether or not it's something they want to spend their money on.

It made ME laugh.

The fallout snark, not so much.

You should release the real promo art so we can decide you've ruined the character based on what it is you're actually doing with him!
