I always find it amusing when someone in a band, or a comic writer or someone who does anything really tackles criticism with ‘yeah, well you go do better/at least I’m doing something’…
It’s like it never crossed their minds that not everyone sits their dreaming about having that job the way they did when they were fourteen or something.
(Of course if we all did and then went out to do it, there would be no consumer base to buy the albums, and also no one actually running the important things in life, but I digress).

The weirdest part was definitely where he got all defensive about people not liking his band. This guy should not be allowed to make press statements.

Also, is it just me, or does there seem to be a great increase in people dropping f-bombs in press statements and interviews these days? Bendis can’t go two questions without cursing, and this guy’s statement is pretty egregious as well. Not to say I support censorship or the like, but the severe lack of decorum when you’re representing yourself to the public is pretty noticeable.

Whatâ€™s more ridiculous to me is his hair splitting about CBRâ€™s synopsis of the quote he admits to. â€œHey, I didnâ€™t say it was unsatisfactory, I said it was lame!â€

Yeah, I found it kinda sad that Andy Khouri felt like he had to offer up even a kinda apology, because any mis-characterization was based solely on the guy’s words (although, admittedly, a lot of the mis-characterization was not the guy’s fault, but whoever made up that quote by him).

I’ve never read or wanted to read a comic about a band – Unless it was Metallica, circa Cliff Burton era. Or about him coming back to life and being immortal. That’s the only band comic I wanna read.

Note to self: If you are in a band that creates music in a genre that is frequently ridiculed, name-drop a much better band that is universally considered to be awesome. Then you are hip and not “lame.”

All kidding aside, regardless of whether or not the drummer made the remarks in the original press release (my money says he probably didn’t since most celebrities don’t seem to care much about the words attributed to them), there really is no need for anyone to defend themselves about anything here. The project fell through for whatever reason. It happens. But obviously at one point the band (or, at the very least, the band’s management) was hot for the idea. Hot enough to send out a big press release, with or without the consent of the Cool Guy Drummer.

The problem is Cool Guy Drummer can’t seem to just let it drop. He has to instead insist the project was a “lame” idea that he had no knowledge of and wanted no part of, instead of just letting it go. No need to drag it out to redeem “cool” points or whatever.

It just makes the guy seem like a prima donna. I am sure if there was no trademark issue Cool Guy Drummer would be marching to a very different tune (“I am so stoked to be in a comic book!”)

Yeah, it is. At the same time, I’ve learned of late at my own job that making up quotes in news releases is pro forma, at least where I work.

But yeah, I feel like the whole attitude from this new quote comes off as “Ugh, I can’t believe I have to make a statement about it. We ignored it for so long, why didn’t it just go away?”
And wasn’t that a weird tangent he took about us starting our own bands and how maybe he would be jealous he’s not in it or maybe he’d think we would suck?

Doesn’t that imply he finds lame things satisfactory? Guess that would explain a lot.
