Scanning Help Needed!
- by Brian Cronin
- in General
I could really use some help with some good resolution scans if you kind readers could possibly assist me!
Here are a few things that I need good resolution (say anything better than 800 x 1000 pixels) scans of - it doesn't have to be stuff that you personally scanned yourself - if you can find it somewhere on the vast internets, then bless you - I sure haven't been able to!
So here is my list (these are the stuff that I think folks might actually have - next week I'll hit you with some crazy practically impossible-to-find requests):
The last two panels from Fantastic Four (Vol. 3) #56.
The cover to Marvel's Star Wars #1.
The cover to Marvel Spotlight #32.
The cover to Marvel Super-Heroes (Vol. 1) #12.
The cover to Howard the Duck MAX #1.
The cover to Limited Collectors Edition #41 (the Toth Superfriends cover).
The cover to Black Lightning (Vol. 1) #1.
The infamous Universe X Special: Spidey #1 panel with the Bob Harras insult in the background.
The Alex Ross cover to the Squadron Supreme TPB from the 1990s.
The Alex Toth Superfriends poster DC released recently.
The series of panels from "Letitia Lerner, Superman's Babysitter" where baby Clark gets into the microwave.
The cover to Super Hero Happy Hour #1.
Thanks! If you can help me out, please send the scans to bcronin@comicbookresources.com.

I could do the Howard the Duck MAX cover, the DC LImited Collector's Edition #41, and Black Lightning #1 for ya. I don't have a scanner big enough for the Superfriends poster, sadly. I could send you a photo of it or close up scans of the Superman head if you get desperate.
I'm assuming these are for future Urban Legends pieces?

Thanks, John!
Hmmm...if push comes to shove, yeah, I'd say a detail of the poster would be fine.

I should be able to do the Star Wars #1 and Universe X Spidey scans for you...
When do you need them by?

Do my utmost!
Do you remember whereabouts the Harras insult was? I seem to recall you saying it was on the spine of a book...

I'm afraid I do not.
I do know that a character is saying "Your powers have no effect on me" in the panel, if that helps!
Thanks again!
It's funny, while checking to see if I could find the page number, I noticed that this blog entry is already high on Google results for searches involving Universe X Spidey!

I'm pretty sure I have the Squadron Supreme book you're talking about. I should be able to dig it out of storage this weekend and make a scan for you, if no one gets to it before then.

Alas, I can't help... but surely that Star Wars cover can't be TOO hard to find, right? It's pretty famous for the "green Darth Vader" thing.

Right, John, but like I said, I was looking for images 800x1000 pixels or bigger, or relatively, at least double the size of those images.

I notice the items that John said he could do in the first comment are not yet crossed off; I could provide HtDM 1. Will give it a day or so though (can't do it right now anyway).

Haven't you already shown scans of some of these images in Urban Legends? Like the Harras insult and the Howard MAX cover, I'm positive you've shown those already in Urban Legends before.

Brian,
Sorry fo rthe huge delay in getting back to you on this, but UNiverse X was in my Ebay pile in the spare room... Stacked in box 12... Right at the bottom...
Here's the rub.. Even though there is no mention of "First printing", "Second printing" or otherwise, my copy has the blank bookcase on that panel...
I went through the book five times before I finally realised that the reason I wasn't spotting it must be that I own the WRONG VERSION!!! Dang it.. However, If you want a 300dpi scan of the page (it's a 3-panel page, so each panel is actually quite large, and it's obvious that the insult would actually be quite noticeable!!)
There are examples of other book spines a couple of pages previous, with titles like "Along Came a Spider" and "Arachnia"...
Do you still need a scan of Marvel Star Wars #1 with the Red-headed Leia and the green Darth Vader?
Apologies and queries,
Tim

That's too bad, Tim.
Ah well - maybe no one has the foul-up?
Thanks for looking!

Brian,
I took the liberty of downloading Credo's scan from the "Urban Legends" piece, and Photoshopped the resolution a bit, cleaning up the grain and print patterns a bit...
There's definitely a word or two before "Harras... " Could even be "R.I.P. Bob Harras..."
Where do I email stuff to?? (Email me with your email address if necessary)...
Though wouldn't Credo happen to have a better scan of his original?
