Universal War One part 1 of 3? *looks at the five, soon to be six, issues of it on his own shelf* They’re being cautious, I guess. Anyway I’m always for more European stuff on the market, as it means we can actually discuss them on the forums.

I was looking forward to Longshot on X-Factor, so I’m still hoping the real deal shows up. One of my favourite characters, while I don’t like the vast majority of his appearances. Rather odd, that.

I can only remember it being controversial because every female character in a Middleton book looks extremely young, and every female character in a Middleton book is drawn with her under garments showing, and in this book he really took it to the extreme.

Also in Marvel books, thereâ€™s an ad for the new NYX mini-series. The tagline reads â€œThe controversial series returns!â€ Maybe I missed it, but what was so controversial about it? The fact that it took 17 years for seven issues to come out? Someone explain, please!

Stroman’s return on X-factor brings a feeling of nostalgia, but a little itchy bit of disappointment as well. I havn’t read Stroman’s run on X-Factor for some time but I remember shapes (especially Lorna’s and Val Cooper’s hair) expanding to other panels. There it seemed sharper, more defined than what I recalled. But I just love the panel with Guido trimming his hair.

I’ve only read the first three issues of UW, missing the releases of the following three, but I really liked it and I hope it finds its audience in the States.

And one FUCK YEAH! for The Incredible Hercules.

Dunno if it’s accurate, as I don’t care enough to look into the matter, but some said on a Checkmate thread in CBR’s DC Universe forum that the title is slated for cancellation anyway & has been for awhile.

Otherwise, of what you bought, I found Incredible Hercules several notches below the previous few issues & couldn’t get past page 6 or so of Godland. Probably I’m just in a bad mood or something.

(Issue #1 of Charlatan’s Ball was an impenetrable mess, so I knew better than to waste my money on the 2nd ish.)

All I got this week was Rogues’ Revenge, which was a great nostalgia trip back to the good ol’ days of the Johns / Kolins collaboration on Flash. People will be whining about how it doesn’t fit in continuity, but screw that – it was a fun story, with all the supporting characters (Chrye, Morrillo, Ashley Zolomon, etc.) that were nonpersoned when v4 started getting some screen time to remind everyone that, at one point, the supporting cast was bigger than just the kids. Plus, it was dense enough for two issues of most regular titles, which is always a plus in my books.

Yes, that means I wrote off Checkmate. Can’t DC kick Bruce Jones back to Marvel and let him go back to screwing up books I don’t give a damn about?

Count me as another disappointed Longshot fan. Though I’ll give David the benefit of the doubt that we’ll see the real one pop up at some point…
