Others from my usual suspects:

The Fury of Firestorm #24 contained, in an 8-page preview backup story, the first appearance of Blue Devil.

Grendel #24 was the beginning of the Orion Assante/Eppy Thatcher arc

Puma Blues #24 1/2 (There was no 24, but this was a 16-page mini-comic which gave it the ’1/2′) was the last issue of Puma Blues ever (which is slightly more likely to still be true in five years than the Miracleman)…

Quasar #24 was all about the suck. Maelstrom created an enormous universe-swallowing black Hole, and wanted Earth to go in first. Dr. Strange and assorted other magicians helped that from not happening, while Quasar dove right into the black hole to confront Maelstrom himself. Feel free to say this issue sucks.

Is it just me or are the candidates from the same grouping of about twelve comics or so? Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Doom Patrol, Sandman, Avengers, Swamp Thing all get honourable mentions a lot of the timeâ€¦

There are only 12 important comics. Everything else is Quasar.

What about Atlas Comics’ Young Men #24, Timely/Marvel’s brief Silver Age revival of its superheroes – the Human Torch, the Submariner and Captain America? Marvel Superheroes going after the commies!

My favorite Gaiman Miracleman issue (heck, my favorite Miracleman issue period) is #17, but I’m sure there’s no way that’ll get picked now that this one has. Oh well, at least it’s being represented!

Awww, great pick! I didn’t expect this one at all. Nobody talks about Gaiman’s Miracleman ’cause Moore’s run is so (deservedly) celebrated, but I think Gaiman offered it the perfect benediction.
