In #187, Zee decided to create a third costume based off of neither of her parents, and hence the scarabhead outfit was born. Designed by George Perez, this costume followed all of his distinctive conventions, including a minimum of four contrasting colors, a design so intricate that only Perez himself can draw it well without simplification, puffy sleeves and/or a flowing cape, atypcial placement of bare skin, heavily angular positioning of costume components, and a distinctive hair style. Who is the woman in silver on the Batman cover? I’m guessing that’s from the satellite era, and the only person I can think of is Zatanna (sp?), but I’ve never seen her in anything like that.

That is, indeed, Zatanna.

Amusingly enough, even back then, there were complaints about her outfit showing off too much cleavage!

Should I be surprised that Black Canary outranked the Atom?

Canary gets the extra little boost from being both in the JLI and the current Justice League.

Brian, how did Red Tornado and Hawkgirl/woman do?

Poorly for Hawkgirl/woman. Red Tornado is in the top 25, most likely just behind Ice.

I’d really like you to do a list like this for the X-Men, Brian (even if we already know Wolverine will take the top spot). I’d be curious to see how some of the mainstay mutants - like Colossus, Rogue, Storm, Nightcrawler - would rank against each other.

I'm surprised you were able to resist some of the giant-sized Batman JLA covers from the Bat-fad days (daze?) in the sixties, like:

Power Girl’s high ranking is a big surprise, given the only Justice League she was ever a member of was the European one.

She got that high by first:

A. Dominating the JLE category

and then

B. Appearing on a goodly amount of the first volume of JLA (about 12 covers)

Not a bad showing for Kyle Rayner. He’s the only Justice Leaguer in the top twenty to join the team since JLI #24 back in 1989 (the debut of the Justice League Europe).

And that issue of JLI was the first cover Wally appeared on, and he still made it to #7!!

i was kind shocked they didn’t in the vol 1 count.

Because the results of the first volume were surprising, just like I said then!

The last cover (Supes) is fitting, given the topic.

I counted Katar/Fake Katar/Reboot Katar/Current Carter all as one Hawkman.

I only own 5 of the comics pictured--but you could have filled it with covers of 20 I own--oh well.
