SDCC Thoughts on the Agents of Atlas Ongoing

On the one hand, Marvel has certainly given the Agents of Atlas a real slow burn, by having them make guest appearances in a number of books in back of their critically-acclaimed (it was critically acclaimed, right? I mean, I liked it, but I forget if other people did or not) original mini-series, so the news that the series is being given an ongoing (written by the great Jeff Parker, but sans original artist Leonard Kirk, who is on the great Captain Britain book right now) is not, like, totally out of left field.

That said, I think a series of mini-series would fit the concept better than an ongoing, and if the mini-series do real well, THEN I can see an ongoing.

I just hope that if the sales aren’t there, it won’t affect seeing them in future mini-series and one-shots.

And, of course, I naturally hope that the sales ARE there, as I’m looking forward to the book.

It was an acclaimed series, expecially the collection they put out. I’m not crazy about this ongoing, I would have rather read another mini-series to make up my mind on this. It’s also not like the book sold that well the first time around, I can’t imagine how it will do this time, they really are churning out a number of these new series which I am not sure if they aren’t shooting themselves in the foot.

Marvel’s C-level titles are so good right now. SO good. It reminds me of when I was a kid, but you know, in an alternate reality where Silver Sable and the Wild Pack and Sleepwalker were excellent titles or something.

It was a cool little mini. I do wonder if it can sustain a whole series since the mini was really a progression to what happened at the end. The idea of the team using the resources of this global criminal conspiracy does sound kind of awesome and could be an interesting struggle of good intentions and “bad” power mechanisms. Somewhat like Angel season 5 maybe.

Very cool. I have enough faith in Jeff Parker that, if he pitched this as an ongoing, then he knows what he wants to do with it. Could be very good INDEED.

The limited series was my favorite Marvel comic of recent vintage. The Premier Hardcover of the book was perhaps the best presentation I have ever seen in a reprint volume. Dedicating half the volume to historic material was brilliant.

So, I’m a little excited about this.

Silver Sable was an excellent book, thank you very much.

Agents of Atlas is one of the best recent Marvel books. I’m looking forward to the ongoing.

Canceled with #12. But at least it exists!

I call canceled with #10. Marvel loves canceling at 10, right?

issue 16 but it will be awsome the whole time

Oh, hell yes! The Agents of Atlas mini was a thing of pure genre-bending awesomeness. I knew I wasn’t sacrificing all those chickens for nothing.

I think occasional minis would be more appropriate for this title.

Kirk’s absence will probably improve the book though. It’d be fun if they could get someone pleasantly retro like Eric Wight.

Agents of Atlas ongoing? SOLD!

I’m of many many minds about this. On the one hand, I am happy that Jeff Parker’s getting to do a series that’s obviously something he loves doing. On the other hand, I a) miss him on the Marvel Adventures titles, where he was spectacular every issue, and b) think it’s a crying shame that Bendis is writing the two “headline” Avengers books, while Jeff Parker is not.

It’s a quandary.
