Actually, that encourages me.  It seems we&#039;re headed into a time where the pendulum has gone too far in the opposite direction of the days when the mainstream didn&#039;t take comics seriously enough to our current age where people are taking them too seriously.  I mean some of the interviews with the creators and actors of The Dark Knight would have you thinking they were filming a Dostoevsky or Shakespeare adaptation.  People are so desperate to sell superhero comics as &quot;capital A&quot; art that they&#039;ve sucked all the fun out of them and made them joyless.  I would hate to see Watchmen given the joyless, ultraserious pretentious treatment of The Dark Knight movie.  As a teenager, as much as I enjoyed the grand themes of Watchmen, a major selling point for many of us and the stuff that had me and my friends buzzing the most about the book afterschool were the &quot;kewl&quot; scenes of things blowing up and people getting beat up and Rorsharch&#039;s badass threats to the other prisoners.  Now that we&#039;re all in our 30s and up, we forget or downplay the visceral thrills the &quot;kewl&quot; colorful parts of the book gave us when we were younger and try to act like it&#039;s James Joyce&#039;s Ulysses with some capes thrown in because we now feel that we NEED the book to be high art with a capital A in order to validate us and justify our still being obsessed with superhero books at this advanced age. 		<description>Lauren Weinstein looks exactly like the cover of Girl Stories (check it out, it&#039;s an amazing book!  Amazon has it starting at 99 cents).  Goddess of War is (so far) a wonderful read.  It&#039;s very engaging and evocative--the kind of book that brings out a jumble of emotions at once.
